by: Shannon

COLUMBUS JUNCTION (Friday, June 2, 2006) - Matt Bodman pick up his first Late Model feature win with Bob Schwab picking up his first CJ Cruiser feature win. Alex Buffington, Mike Rees, and Aaron Summy were in victory lane again. Intermission saw presentation of the Relay For Life favorite driver plaques with Alex Buffington, Jeremy Tompkins, Brandon Jay, Michael Dominguez, and Matt Gomez receiving plaques. There was also a candy dash sponsored by Island Auto Salvage.

The Cruiser feature was off to a slow start with numerous cautions before a lap was completed leaving Bob Schwab, Rod Summy, and Josh Mohror the only three cars not sent to the back of the pack. Schwab started on the point and led the entire race, picking up his first feature win. Josh Mohror followed to take second with Rod Summy in third.

The late model feature was action packed racing with Andy Starkweather, Mick Wiele, and Ron Boyse leading the pack the first lap. One lap later Wiele took the point with Boyse passing Starkweather for second going inside into turn 3. Two laps later Wiele went high in turn 4, allowing Boyse to take the lead. Matt
Bodman and Kevin Kile made their way from their deep starting positions to challenge the top 3. On lap 7 it was Boyse, Bodman, and Kile in the top 3. Two laps later Bodman took the lead with Kile following for second one lap later. Bodman picks up the feature win, Kile takes second advancing eight spots during the race, and Boyse finishes third.

Aaron Summy and Randy Phillips were out front for the IMCA feature when Phillips went high in turn 4, losing the second place spot to Travis Finke. Summy was able to hold off Finke for the next 13 laps, taking another feature win. Finke took second with Phillips in third before he was disqualified for refusing to go to tech. Rod Staats advanced to the third place finish.

Doug Eichelberger, Michael Frank, II, and Darrin Ealey went three wide into through turns 1 and 2 making for some exciting racing to start off the hobby stock feature. Frank, II came out on top with Jeremy Tompkins in second. The two bounced off each other on the backstretch, pushing Tompkins up onto the levi. He was able to avoid a caution, but ended up at the tail of the pack. Rees Took the lead with Frank, II in second and Mark Winkel in third when Frank, II and
Winkel made contact, avoiding a caution, but both lost numerous spots. Mike Cassabaum fell in behind Rees for second. Rees went on to pick up another feature win with Cassabaum taking second and Mark Winkel third.

Alex Buffington had the point in the 4 cylinder feature and had gained a considerable lead with Daniel Keltner in second and TJ Garrison in third. Garrison passed Keltner coming out of turn 4 to take the second place position. Four laps later Brian Tipps made his way around Keltner for third. Buffington continued to increase his lead, only to be bunched pack up on restarts. However, he was able to hold off Garrison and Tipps to pick up another feature win. Garrison took second with Tipps in third.

Join us next week as we have a candy dash sponsored by Triple D Motorsports along with other goodies for the kids.
