Three get first time wins on Mid Season Championship night at CJ Speedway
by Dana Royer

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, IA (JULY 9, 2010) - Three racers got their first CJ Speedway wins at the Louisa County track on Caseys General Store, Tyson Fresh Meats Mid Season Championship night Friday, July 9. Paul Hallett, Muscatine (mod lites), Daniel Brockert, Grandview (modifieds) and Tad Payne, Muscatine (IMCA stock cars) all took feature wins  with Wapellos Geoff Theobald (4 cylinders) and Alex Buffington (hobby stocks) both getting repeat victories. The kids enjoyed a candy dash and gunny sack races as well. Point race action will continue this week, with racing in all five classes on Friday, July 9.

The modified makeup feature from July 2 took to the track first with Steve Stewart, Burlington, in  his Tony Stewart Racing Shop, Washington, IA, modified taking the win. Stewart took the lead from Daniel Brockett on lap three and never looked back.

In hobby stock action Wapellos Alex Buffington picked up his second hobby stock win at CJ. Jason Hartman, Muscatine would take the first lead  of the race with Lane Kauffman challenging . Kauffman would take the lead on lap four when Hartman got too high coming out of turn two. But Kauffman would get sideways one lap later and Hartman would regain  his earlier lead and went on to hold off Alex Buffington for his second win this year.

Driving a mod lite owned by Daniel Vincent, Paul Hallett, Muscatine, would become the fifth driver in  six races to get a mod lite feature win at CJ. Justin Buchholz would get the early lead from  his front row start with Hallett not far behind. On a lap six restart, Buchholz would slow on the front stretch and pull in to the pit area putting Hallett in the lead. Hallett would pull away from the field the final six laps and went on to get his first win.

Seventeen IMCA Stock Cars took to the track for their mid season championship feature lined up by points. Current point leader Tad Payne, Muscatine, took advantage of his front row start and would pull away from the field early on in the fifteen lap race. Behind Payne would be a battle for second between Cole Simmons, Morning Sun, Nathan Wood, Keswick and David Hemsted, Lone Tree. As Payne took the checkered flag for the first time this year at CJ, Nathan Wood would pass Simmons and Hemsted to finish second.

Wapellos Geoff Theobald racked up another 4 cylinder feature win,  his fourth this year at CJ. After Theobald was hit  on the restart to bring out the caution, he would be able to move back up to pass Bill Whalen, Ainsworth, on lap two and went on to hold off Whalen for the remaining seven circuits to take the checkered flag. Bill Whalen finished second and Darrin Smith, Wapello, finished third.
