Deery Brothers Late Model series headlines ‘Dirt At The Downs’ show

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (Aug. 1) – The Deery Brothers Summer Series takes top billing for the ‘Dirt At The Downs’ show next Wednesday at Hawkeye Downs Speedway.

IMCA J & J Steel Late Models will be joined by sanctioned Modifieds, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks on the Aug. 6 card at Cedar Rapids.

The Late Model feature pays $2,000 to win and will be run on the half- mile track. Modifieds run for a top prize of $500 and join the SportMods, Stocks and Hobbies on the quarter-mile.

Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 6 p.m. Hot laps are at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m.

Grandstand admission is $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, and $1 for kids 11 and under accompanying a paid adult. Pit passes are $25.

Hawkeye Downs has hosted 15 previous series events for the Late Models. Jeff Aikey of Waterloo and Mike Smith of Jewell are both three-time winners there, while popular NASCAR visitor Ken Schrader owns a pair of victories.

Ten different drivers have made visits to victory lane through the first 12 Deery races this year. Point leader Boone McLaughlin of Mediapolis and Terry Neal of Ely are both two-time winners.
