Iowa State Fair Speedway 2006 Season Starts in April
By David Wilkinson

Des Moines, Iowa (March 7, 2006) - The historic Iowa State Fair Speedway will begin the 2006 season of racing on April 1st with an Enduro following an afternoon of practice and conclude the season with a two-day special on September 22nd and 23rd.

Promoter Mick Trier said, “Last year, our racing was very competitive with many winners over the season and several point championships going down to the last night of the season. This is a great track for IMCA late models with drivers regularly towing from around Iowa and across the Mississippi River in Illinois.

“We expect to see growth in the second year of the IMCA SportMod class as more racers try the class.”

In addition, the dirt trucks return with a new series sponsor this year, Cookies BBQ.

Racing will be contested this year in the following divisions: IMCA late models, IMCA modifieds, IMCA stock cars, IMCA hobby stocks, IMCA SportMods, and Cookies BBQ Truck Series.

Defending champions from 2005 are: Todd Cooney, IMCA late models; Dave Farren Jr., IMCA modifieds; Travis Hansaker, IMCA stock cars; Doug Seidl, IMCA hobby stocks; Bret Moyer, dirt trucks; and Kyle Wahlert, IMCA SportMods.

All divisions, except the late models, open the regular season on Friday April 7th with the season championships running on September 1st. The late models open the season April 21st and conclude with season championships on July 28th. The fall special will be expanded to a include Saturday as well as Friday and will be held September 22nd and 23rd.

The Iowa State Fair Championships are always a highlight The Saturday morning and afternoon championships will be held on August 12th and the evening program featuring the Deery Brothers Series for IMCA late models will be contested on Monday, August 14th.

Practices are scheduled for Saturday April 1st from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM and Wednesday April 5th from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. The Saturday practiced will be followed by the first racing event, an Enduro starting at 4:00 PM. A second Enduro will be held Saturday, September 2nd during Labor Day weekend.
