Iowa State Fair Speedway Repeat Winners Graham, Dawson and Lundy

Des Moines, Iowa (April 21, 2006) - Three drivers took the checkered first for the second time this season Friday night at the Iowa State Fair Speedway – Pat Graham, IMCA modified; Bill Dawson, IMCA hobby stock; and Ryan Lundy, IMCA SportMod. Other winners were Russ Byriel, IMCA stock car; Justin Maschke, IMCA hobby stock feature #2; and Matt Waugh, Cookies BBQ Truck Series.
Troy Shute passed Adam Larson on the second lap and opened a wide lead in the IMCA modified main. A caution during the ninth lap bunched up the field and Pat Graham, running second at the time, pulled aside Shute on the restart and passed him on the low side in turns one and two.. Another caution flag tighten the field with three laps to go and Shute challenged Graham all the way to the finish with Graham winning and Shute running second. During much of the race, John Davis and Greg Cox waged a furious battle for third. Davis finished third a car-length ahead of Cox.
Twenty-six IMCA stock cars lined up for the feature. At the start, Steve Hill led with Don Wear running a close second. On the third lap, Hill drifted high in turn three, rubbed the wall, allowing Wear and Don Killen to pass him. Two laps later, Killen took the lead from Wear. Russ Byriel moved through the field and was chasing Killen. On the last lap, in turn three, Killen drifted into the marbles and managed to keep control of his car. It allowed Byriel the opportunity to pass, he took it and won the race. Josh Daniels finished second, Killen third and Hill fourth.
Both IMCA hobby stock features were won by drivers who led all ten laps. In the first main, Bill Dawson finished ahead of Matt Inman, Rob Allison, and Bill Bonnett. In the second feature, Justin Maschke held off Kevin Fee, who pulled aside Maschke on the last turn of the last lap. Fee ran second, Kyle Webb third and Ray Stock Jr. fourth.
Pat Fagen captured the lead at the start of the Cookies BBQ truck series feature. Two-thirds of the way through the 15 lap race, Matt Waugh passed Fagen for the lead. Waugh won with Josh Hull second, Lou Sipolt third, and Rick Clark fourth.
Early in the dwarf car feature, Fred Schimmels looked like a new winner for the series that occasionally appears at the track. However, by lap three, Mike Morrill passed Schimmels and held him off in the race to the checkered flag. Schimmels finished second, Jimmy May third, and Charley Brown was fourth.
Racing continues next Friday evening with the first appearance of the IMCA late models this season along with IMCA modifieds, hobby stocks, SportMods, and Cookies BBQ Truck Series. Hot laps are scheduled for 6:00 PM with racing following.
