"Picture Perfect" evening was on tap Friday night at the English Creek Speedway

KNOXVILLE, IA (May 18) - Another "picture perfect" evening was on tap Friday night at the English Creek Speedway, and although the temps dropped with the sun there was still plenty of heat on the track. With 43 karts checking in and another good crowd on hand, it had all the makings of a great night of racing. The Box Stock division was the class to watch, with drivers jockeying 3- and sometimes 4-wide for the top positions, whether it was the heat, the dash or the Feature.

Collin Moyle held off a late charge by Jake Sharp to pick up the Box Stock win. The Restrictor-Box Stock Feature was dominated by Brooke Mitrisin of Oskaloosa in only her second night on the track. Cody Baker of Knoxville overcame an early race spin, used several cautions and a great jump on a late-race restart to capture his first Feature win in the 125cc division. Twelve year-old Carson McCarl made it 2 in-a-row in the Micro Sprint Feature with little pressure from the rest of the field.

David Herrmann used his front row starting spot to jump out to an early lead in the Open/500cc Feature, and held off several pass attempts from pole-sitter Tony Shilling. Herrmann led the majority of the race, but a bobble in turn 2 with a handful of laps remaining saw Shilling and Nick DeMoss bolt underneath. Shilling would hold on to pick up the win, while Herrmann settled for second. DeMoss went too high in a bid for the lead, which saw him lose several positions in the marbles before climbing back to fourth.

Next Friday, May 25, English Creek Speedway will hold a previously unscheduled "Make-Up" Point Race. Gates open at 5:30pm with Hot Laps at 7:15.

English Creek Speedway is Iowa's Premier Outlaw Dirt Kart facility, featuring the Restrictor Box Stock, Box Stock, 125cc Karts, 500cc Outlaw Karts and Micro Sprint divisions.
