KEVIN LEE, TIM PLUMMER, CHAD SIEMS, SCOTT WENNERMARK, TRAVIS MCCOMBS, AND TERRY SCHAFFAR SCORE FRIDAY NIGHT WINS
by: Brad Grupe

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (May 19, 2006) - Better weather helped bring a huge crowd to Hawkeye Downs Speedway on Friday night to watch Altorfer CAT/100.7 The Fox Night at the races. All six divisions were in action with Papa Johns Cup I Wireless & Full Throttle Energy Drink Stars of Tomorrow points up for grabs.

Kevin Lee of Cedar Rapids earned his first victory since returning to the Budweiser Sportsman division in a 25 laps feature for that division. The caution plagued race saw Brian Franks of Central City finish in second and point leader Andy Duggan finished in third.

Defending Miller Time Modified Champion Tim Plummer of Norway was awarded the win in that division after first across the line Arlo Becker failed post-race inspection. Officials flagged the #88 modified for unapproved suspension components in a routine inspection.

The25 lap feature was also slowed by numerous cautions with 3 yellow flags in the first 9 laps. The revised finish order shows Rodney Rocarek of Mount Vernon in second and Chad Willett of Cedar Rapids in third.

Chad Siems of Marion posted a strong run in the Barron Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars holding off a determined Bob Ahrendsen of Cedar Rapids at the stripe to take the checkers. Logan Hale finished in third alongside Ahrendsen with Randy Filling a bumper behind. Point leader Brad Dvorak recovered from earlier mechanical problems to land in fifth.

Scott Wennermark held on to win the Performance Concepts Late Model feature with Brad Osborn finishing second in his first appearance of the season. Wennermark held a substantial margin over Osborn at the halfway mark of the race but Osborn picked up nearly 2/10 of a second per lap to narrow the margin in the final laps. Kyle Hinrichs finished in third and Jeff King was fourth.

Osborn just received medical clearance to race after recovering from a non-racing related injury.

Travis McCombs won a thrilling race on the quarter-mile in the Sunline Hornets division. The race saw multiple position changes throughout the 12 lap duration but in the end McCombs scored the win over Nathan Ballard. The original third place finisher, Creston Williams failed tech inspection so Brian Beaty was awarded third place.

Terry Schaffar of State Center crossed the stripe in first in the Barron Motor Supply IMCA Hobby Stocks. Shaffar broke point leader Tim Dains win streak but Dains did finish second which will be enough to keep him on top of the points chart. Another point contender, Rodney Grother finished in third.
