Davis takes promoter’s post at Stuart Speedway
STUART, Iowa (Feb. 2, 2007) – Bill Davis Jr. made his first trips to Stuart
Speedway as a fan and then as a crew member for his father’s race team.
He’ll realize a dream on opening night, as promoter of the ¼ mile clay track.
“Promoting is something I’ve always wanted to do, and this opportunity at Stuart
is sort of like going home for us,” said Davis, son of two time national IMCA
Modified champion Bill Davis Sr. “We have added new clay, rebanked the corners
and straightaways, and rebuilt the scorers’ stand. We also want to make the pit
area more racer friendly as far as being able to get trailers in and out.”
Trophy dashes and races such as Australian pursuits, where cars start single
file and are eliminated if they get passed, will join Sunday shows that start
April 8 and run through Aug. 26.
IMCA sanctioned Modifieds, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, Stock Cars and
Hobby Stocks will return to weekly programs at Stuart. All four divisions will
be on the ticket for Ron Little Memorial on May 27.
Already on the phone with sponsors lining up prizes to be given away during the
season and post-season awards banquet, Davis will continue racing his own IMCA
Modified on Friday nights. He has 20 career feature wins in the class to his
credit and has qualified for the main event at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super
Nationals three times.
