Harris Auto Racing signs on to sponsor Efkamp Memorial Race of Champions

BOONE, Iowa (April 26) – Harris Auto Racing has signed on as the new title sponsor for the Ron Efkamp Memorial Race of Champions, one of the most prestigious events during the week of the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals.

The 19th annual race is set for Saturday, Sept. 8 and will feature a 12 car field pared from the top Modified drivers attending the silver anniversary Super Nationals at Boone Speedway.

Efkamp was IMCA’s director of competition from 1984 until his death in 1988. The first race in his honor was held the following year.

“Ron lived about three blocks away. He’s the one who inspired me to get into racing and steered me in the right direction,” said John Logue, owner of the Boone chassis building company as well as a nine-time qualifier for the Efkamp race, the 2001 winner and five time Super Nationals Modified champion. “He was a good friend of mine and that’s why it’s important for me to sponsor this race.”

Qualifying heats for this year’s race, which pays $1,000 to win, $100 for each of the 12 laps led and a minimum of $100 to start, will be held Thursday, Sept. 6.
No change has been made in previous eligibility requirements to qualify. Drivers taking the green flag in a qualifying heat also get $100, pushing the total purse for the race to more than $13,000.

“Harris Auto Racing is a natural partner for this great event, and with their new location so close to the race track it really adds to the overall atmosphere surrounding this race,” IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder said. “I look forward to working with John and Harris Auto Racing to promote this event for years to come.”
