Herrig takes promotional helm at Alta’s Buena Vista Raceway

ALTA, Iowa (Mar 27) – After competing at Buena Vista Raceway for the past 15 years, Jeff Herrig is looking forward to his next opening night from a different perspective.

Herrig is the new promoter at the Alta race track, where the first point races of 2008 will be held on April 23.

Wednesday night programs featuring IMCA-sanctioned Modifieds, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks and now Sport Compacts run through Aug. 27.

“I’ve really enjoyed racing, especially here at Buena Vista, and I want this track to be successful,” Herrig said. “We’ve got a good bunch of excellent help coming back from last year, including Toby Kruse as our flagman.”

Sport Compacts replace BVR 4-bangers on the weekly programs. Modified points earned at BVR count toward North Central Region standings, Stock Car and Hobby Stock points both in the Jet Racing Northern Regions.

“What I like best about IMCA is that the rules even out the playing field,” said Herrig. “Money doesn’t dictate the outcome of races like it does in other sanctioning bodies.”

A Buena Vista County fair week special is on tap Thursday, July 17 for the Stock Cars.
