Dakota Track Side sponsors new series for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars

MINOT, N.D. (April 25) – A first of its kind series for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars in North Dakota and Saskatchewan runs under the Dakota Track Side banner this summer.

The Minot, N.D., high performance parts retailer and fuel supplier will award the $1,000 point fund to be paid out to top 10 drivers in point standings for the five-date tour, which complements the Big Dog Dakota Classic Tour for IMCA Modifieds.

“Sponsoring this series seemed like a natural fit for us. We’re glad we can provide the point fund and make it possible for more drivers from North Dakota and surrounding states to take part in the tour,”
General Manager Jim Zaun said. “I’ve been around for 15 of the 19 years of the Modified tour, which has been very successful.
Everything just came together at the right time for us to sponsor the Stock Car series.”

The Dakota Track Side Classic Series opens Saturday, July 5 at Geographical Center Speedway in Rugby and travels to Nodak Speedway in Minot on July 6 and to Estevan, Sask., Motor Speedway on July 7 before winding up with a July 8-9 twinbill at Williston Basin Speedway.

All features pay $500 to win and a minimum of $100 to start.

National, Jet Racing Northern Region and Smiley’s Racing Products State points will be awarded for all five shows and the series champion becomes eligible to qualify for the Sunoco Race of Champions during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals in September.

“The Stock Cars are a growing market for us,” said Zaun. “We’re seeing what we need to in the sport as drivers in the division move up to Modifieds and drivers in the Hobby Stocks and other entry level classes move up to the Stock Cars.”

Dakota Track Side is the official parts supplier for the Dakota Classic Tour and will have parts and support trailers at all series events in North Dakota. Its contingency awards package for the tours now include a Bert transmission to be given by drawing to a driver who competes at all six Modified events, and $50 in product to the hard charger at each Modified and Stock Car event.

“We talked with Jim and Dakota Track Side last year about getting involved with IMCA and the timing of our first Stock Car Tour in North Dakota offered the perfect opportunity to partner with them,”
IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder said. “We are excited drivers attending the tour will get to interact with them, and also look forward to the rest of our membership getting to experience what Dakota Track Side has to offer at Super Nationals.”
