Hogan Memorial rescheduled,
Cassill in Sunday Modified field


VINTON, Iowa (June 16) – The Hogan Memorial for IMCA Modifieds returns to top billing at the rescheduled mid-season championship night card Sunday, June 22 at Benton County Speedway.

NASCAR Nationwide Series rookie and Cedar Rapids native Landon Cassill will compete in a Modified supplied by Jerry Luloff. Cassill will also sign autographs before the racing program gets underway.

The Modified main event at Vinton will pay $1,200 to win. An additional $50 goes to the driver scored in the lead on each of the
25 laps, putting first-place money at as much as $2,450.

Mystery position money will also be paid and Robison Truck­ing will award $200 to the Modified driver improving the most positions from start to finish. Provisional starts will be awarded to the top two drivers in lo­cal point standings and two previous race winners who do not qualify through their heat or “B” events.

The Hogan Memorial is also a qualifying event for the 2009 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot.

Another $250 has been added to the IMCA Sun­oco Stock Car purse, with $200 more paid in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and another $50 in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks.

IMCA Sport Compacts are also on the program. National, regional, Smiley’s Racing Products state and local track points will be awarded.

Pit gates open at 4 p.m., with hot laps at 5:30 p.m. and racing to follow.

The mid-season program was postponed from June 15 because of flooding and the resulting electrical power outage.

Drivers and fans should note that Highway 150 will remain closed on the north side of Vinton because of flood damage and that an alternate route should be taken.
