JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour opens May 10 at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (April 27) – The first green flag of the season flies on Tuesday, May 10 at Benton County Speedway, for the JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour.

IMCA Modifieds race for $1,000 to win in the opening event of the second annual tour. Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts complete the midweek program.

“It’s neat to be able to start the 2011 series at the same track where the first-ever IMCA Modified race was held,” noted Tour Director Bucky Doren. “I expect that a lot of the drivers who followed this series in 2010 will be back with us this year, along with a strong infusion of new talent.”

Mike Jergens of Plover edged Gilman’s Richie Gustin by a single point for the series title last year. Rich Smith of Davenport was eight points off the pace.

IMCA national, ButlerBuilt North Central Region, Allstar Performance State and special series points will be awarded to Modifieds in their Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier at Vinton. SportMods and Sport Compacts both chase national and state points.

Pre-race tech for Modifieds starts at 4 p.m. The pit area will be emptied and pit passes sold starting at 5:30 p.m.

Grandstand ticket sales also start at 5:30 p.m. The draw closes at 6:30 p.m. and hot laps are at 6:45 p.m., with racing to follow.

Pit passes are $25. Grandstand admission is $12 for adults and $5 for kids, with youngsters five and under getting in free.

Rain date is Thursday, May 12.
