WEEDON AWARD to be given Saturday at QCRI SHOW

MOLINE, ILL. (Jan. 29, 2007) - The QUAD CITIES RACING CONNECTION has announced the top five finalists for the QCRC Weedon Award. The award will be presented at the Quad Cities Racing Industry Show, February 3rd, at 5pm, at the QCCA Expo center in Rock Island.

The five finalists for the QCRC Weedon Award are: Jerry Connors, Ray Guss Jr., Rob Henry, Jeff Morris, and Hershel Roberts. The winner of the award will receive a racing-styled ring with their car number, sponsored by J & J Camper Sales.

The award is voted on by local racecar drivers from six area tracks and is named for the late Ronnie Weedon, a local racing hero with over 500 career wins.

The top five finalists represent both sides of the river and three different classes of local stock car competition.

Jerry Connors of Davenport, was 2006 V-8 modified track champion at the Davenport Speedway, with three feature wins. Connors was also honored with the QCRC Driver's Choice award in the modified division.

Ray Guss Jr. of Milan, Ill., picked up four late model feature wins en route to a top five points finish at both Davenport Speedway and Quad City Speedway. Ray was also honored earlier this year by being named one of NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series All-Time Top 25 Drivers.

Rob Henry of Colona, Ill., came back to the Quad City racing scene after a year's absence without missing a beat. Henry picked off street stock wins at both Davenport Speedway and Quad City Speedway, despite not racing the entire season at either track.

Jeff Morris of Long Grove, Ia., had another dominating year behind the wheel of his modified. Double-digit victories and another track championship at Quad City Speedway highlighted the 2006 season for Jeff.

Hershel Roberts of East Moline, Ill., had one feature win on the season and finished in the top ten in late model points at Davenport Speedway, Jackson County Speedway, and Quad City Speedway. The 63 year-old racing veteran accomplished this while battling cancer and undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
