Bahrs keeps rolling

EAST MOLINE, IL (May 20) - It was another beautiful night in the Quad Cities and a great night for racing. Points night #4 got started off with the first autograph session of the season. Before the race got under way Late Model driver Hershel Roberts, A-Modified driver Jason Pershy, B-Modified driver Brad Pershy, street stock driver Rob Henry, and 4 Cylinder driver Todd Sibley were there to sign autographs for the Kid’s SpeedZone. The autograph session will be happening every Sunday from 4:15 to about 5:00, with different drivers each weekend.

Racing got started with the Best Choice Meat Market / Racer Edge B-Modified heat races. Kevin Dickey in the 42 won heat one, Craig Crawford in the 29 won heat two, and George Hubbard in the 77 won heat three.

The Fields of Pizza Street Stocks had two heat races. Gerald Ward in the 3D won heat one and Aaron Burroughs in the 68A won heat two. As an added bonus for the Field of Pizza Street Stocks, Extreme Auto Glass kicked in an extra $10 for the heat race winners.

The A-Modifieds were up next with two heat races. Jeff Morris in the 86 and Milo Veloz Jr. in the 43 won the heat races.

The Builders World IMCA Late Models ran their two heat races next. Hershel Roberts in the 58 and Rob Toland in the 39 won those races.

The Stout Distributing 4 Cylinders were next with a pair of heat races. Shane Hatch in the 99 won heat one and Dan Keltner in the 27D won heat two.

The feature races for the night started off with the Best Choice Meat Market / Racers Edge B-Modifieds. After two yellow flags Greg Durbin in the 8 and Kevin Dickey in the 42 began their fight for the lead. Durbin was running the high side and Dickey was running the bottom. While they were battling for first, Brad Pershy in the 15, who started 10th, and the 10 of Jake Waterman, who started 15th, made their way to the front. At the halfway point Dickey was in the lead and started pulling away from the pack. With five laps to go Pershy was side by side with Dickey. In the end Dickey held off Durbin and Pershy and took home the win.

The Fields of Pizza Street Stocks took to the track next. Chris Lawrence in the 8L took the early lead with Dave Wadsager in the 16 making his way through the field very fast. After few laps Wadsager was in the lead and building a large lead. The real race was for third when the 03 of Chris Hambright, the 8L of Chris Lawrence, 3D of Gerald Ward, and the 68A Aaron Burroughs were all fighting it out going three and four wide. After a restart the 000 of Tony VonDresky tried to make a run for the lead but Wadsager was too fast and took home the victory. Hambright and VonDresky came across the line side by side with VonDresky taking second and Hambright taking third.

The A-Modifieds were up next with their feature event. Jason Pershy in the 17 had the early lead with Milo Veloz Jr. in the 43 coming strong through the field. Eventually Veloz took the lead with great racing through the pack. Doug Crampton in the 40 and Matt Stein in the 53 were racing side by side and Marty Thompson in the 25 and Jeff Morris in the 86 were racing side by side. Veloz had built a good size lead with Crampton in second and Morris and Blum battling for third. Towards the end of race Crampton began gaining on Veloz but it was too little too late. Veloz made it two in a row with Crampton second and Morris third.

The Builders World IMCA Late Models were next with their feature. Early on the battle for first was between Bobby Toland in the 39T and Eric Gustaf in the 90. Both the 6 of Jason Bahrs and the 39 of Rob Toland were quickly moving through the field. Before long it was Bahrs, R. Toland, and E. Gustaf fighting for the lead. Finally both the 6 and 39 got around the 90 and started pulling away. It looked R. Toland was sit to get IMCA Late Model win 100 at his home track but Bahrs had a different plan. After running side by side for a few laps, Bahrs got around R. Toland and pulled away to take home the checkered flag and make it two wins in a row at QCR. R. Toland took second and E. Gustaf took third.

The Stout Distributing 4 Cylinder hit the track last for their feature race. Heat race winner, Dan Keltner, in the 27D jump out to good size lead. Everyone else began spreading out with Keltner building a good lead. Then Keltner blew a fuse and pulled in. A three car battle began for the lead with the 7 of Rob Harding, the 17M of Mike Morrow, and the D26 of Wade Dahl all jockey for position. With two laps to go Morrow’s right rear tire came completely off and Dahl took the lead and made it three wins in a row at QCR with Harding coming in second and Shane Hatch in the 99 taking third. Morrow did finish 5th with only 3 tires.

The next event for Quad City Raceway will be the first of two nights for the Modified Memorial Mania on Sunday, May 27th. This will be the second event on the Topless Modified Series schedule. All other regular divisions at QCR will be running that night too.
