Toland & Nezworski Roll into Victory Lane!!!

EAST MOLINE, IL (June 10) - After all that rain the fans at Quad City Raceway were ready for great racing action and that’s what they got Sunday night. It was Fields of Pizza night at the track featuring double Builders World IMCA Late Model features and with how things went Tuesday night with practice, there was some excitement in the air Sunday night.

The first Builders World IMCA Late Model feature was first up. They picked it up where they left with four laps down. At the drop of the go flag Adam Oppendike in the 29 took the early lead but after two laps the 39 of Rob Toland grabbed the lead and never looked back. The 6 of Jason Bahrs was starting to make his way through the field. He managed to get around Oppendike for second but couldn’t catch up to R. Toland. Some of the best racing of the night was between the 7 of Andy Nezworski, 90 of Eric Gustaf, the 39T of Bobby Toland, and the 11 of Rick Wages. These guys ran 3 wide many times racing for fourth. In the end Wages would finish fourth and win the Silvis Independent Hard Charger Award ($100 in free race fuel) for passing 10 cars. Silvis Independent also gave the second place finisher, Bahrs, $50 in the free fuel, and the third place finisher, Oppendike, $25 in free fuel.

Our regular racing program got underway next with heat races in our Best Choice Meat Market / Racers Edge B-Modifieds. Craig Crawford in the 29 won heat one and Greg Durbin in the 8 won heat two.

The Fields of Pizza Street Stocks ran their heats next with the 63 of Buck Harmening winning heat one and Aaron Burroughs in the 68A taking heat two.

The A-Modifieds hit the track next with two heats. Milo Veloz Jr. in the 43 won heat one and the 86 of Jeff Morris was the winner of the second heat.

The Builders World IMCA Late Models were next. Andy Nezworski in the 7 took heat one and Rob Toland won the second heat race.

The Stout Distributing 4 Cylinders ran their heat next with Wade Dahl in the D26 winning that.

It was now feature time and the Best Choice Meat Market / Racers Edge B-Modifieds were first up. Once the green waved Gary Weatherington Jr. in the 21W grabbed the early lead and started to pull away from the pack. Back in the field a little the 8 of Greg Durbin started making his move to the front. There was some good racing for second between the 83 of Jimmy Comins Jr., the 88J of Jerry Bailey Jr., and Durbin. Durbin finally made his way around them and eventually got around the Weatherington Jr. for the lead. Durbin would hang onto the lead and win his second straight QCR feature. Weatherington Jr. would finish second with Bailey Jr. taking third. Probably the best run of the night was Perry Gellerstedt in the 39. He started 18th and finished 6th.
The Fields of Pizza Street Stocks hit the track next for their feature event. These guys had some big shoes to fill after the feature they had two weeks ago and once again they delivered. Matt Werner in the 93 jumped out to an early lead with Buck Harmening in the 63 and Rick Schriner in the 8 right on his bumper. Meanwhile Rob Henry in the 00 and Aaron Burroughs in the 68A starting their moves to front. Harmening held off Schriner and started battling with Werner for lead. During this Burroughs had made his way up to fourth and was challenging Schriner for third. Finally it was Werner, Harmening, and Burroughs all fighting for lead. You could throw a blanket over them they were so close. Then coming out of two Werner pushed up the track leaving and opening for Harmening and Burroughs. They would pulling away and race side by side the last few laps with Harmening down low and Burroughs running the middle. They were still going at it when the white flag waved and everyone was on there feet and at the line it was Burroughs taking the win with Harmening second and Schriner taking third. For the second race night in a row the Fields of Pizza Street Stocks stole the show.

Our A-Modifieds ran their feature next. Once they got lined up everyone knew it was going to be a good race with Doug Crampton in the 40 and Jeff Morris in the 86 starting on the front row together. When the green flag waved Crampton and Morris immediately went at it. Crampton was running high and Morris was running low lap after lap. Milo Veloz Jr. in the 43 tried to get in there a few times but before he knew it the 1 of Kevin Blum had made his way up from his 7th starting position to challenge Veloz for third. Blum would get around Veloz and run down Crampton and Morris. While Morris and Blum were fighting for second Crampton started building his lead and took home the victory. Morris would hold off Blum for second.

Now it was time for second Builders World IMCA Late Model feature. LeRoy Brenner in the 53 took the early lead at the drop of the green. Back in the pack the side by side row of Jason Bahrs in the 6 and Rob Toland in the 39 started their weekly run to the front. In the meantime the 7 of Andy Nezworski started catching Brenner while Bahrs, R. Toland, and Ron Gustaf in the 90X were running 3 wide. Nezworski caught Brenner and was running side by side with him while R. Toland and Bahrs were side by side behind them. A yellow flag came out with 8 laps to go. After that yellow Nezworski took the lead and never looked back taking home the win. R. Toland and Bahrs got around Brenner for second and third but couldn’t get to Nezworski.

The Stout Distributing 4 Cylinders were the last feature of night. These guys put on a great show as well. Wade Dahl in the D26 wasn’t able to run away with another win. Todd Sibley in the 125 and Robert Belonga in the 77 made him work for it. These guys were going 3 wide lap after lap. In the end Dahl would hold them off with Sibley taking second and Belonga finishing third.

Everyone from Stuart Motorsports, INC. would like to thank all the fans, drivers, and sponsors for all their support and for making Sunday night another outstanding night of racing.

Don’t forget next Sunday is Budweiser Night at QCR with $500 to win A-Modifieds / $50 to start. No entry fee, no membership, and it will be draw / re-draw. Also, Silvis Independent will be doing the hard charger award again but this Sunday it will be in the Fields of Pizza Street Stocks. The driver that passes the most cars in the feature event will receive $100 in the free fuel from Silvis Independent. Second place finisher in the feature will get $50 in free fuel and the third will get $25 in free fuel.
