MACON SPEEDWAY THIS WEEK – ARMY BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION, SPEED TV, AND NASCAR STARS

MACON, IL (June 12) - US Army will be celebrating their 232nd birthday all over the nation this Thursday, June 14. Locally, US Army will be celebrating at Macon Speedway with more than a dozen NASCAR Stars and SPEED TV.

The special Night of NASCAR Stars at Macon Speedway will feature NASCAR drivers competing with each other in UMP Modified cars on the fast 1/5 mile dirt oval. The lineup for this special event includes Marcus Ambrose, Kyle Busch, Ray Evernham, Bobby Labonte, Jason Leffler, Stephen Leicht, Casey Mears, Aaron Pierce, David Reutimann, Kenny Schrader, Kenny Wallace, Mike Wallace, Steve Wallace and JJ Yeley.

Thursday night will also showcase the Hogan Grain/Kubota Sportsman racing for qualifying positions in the Wynn’s Sportsman Nationals event on August 19 at the Springfield Mile. UMP Street Stocks will round out the special program being taped by SPEED TV for broadcast later this summer.

US Army will be presenting special Army wristbands to the first 2000 people to enter Macon Speedway. In addition they will be setting up a special simulator and fans can have personal “dog tags” made in the Macon Speedway picnic pavilion. Race fans can register to win a Mark Martin/US Army jacket in the Army Pavilion area. An Army customized H3 will be on display.

On Thursday, June 14, gates at Macon Speedway will open at 3:00 PM. Racing starts at 7:00. NASCAR Driver qualifying in the UMP Modifieds is scheduled for 6:30 PM. Tickets at the gate are $30 – children 12 and under are $5. Contact the Speedway at 217-764-3000 or 217-764-3200 for more information.
Macon Speedway re-opens on Saturday, June 16 featuring a special night for Caterpillar® Decatur employees and the Street Stock Saturday Night Special.
Weekly racing at Macon Speedway features five UMP sanctioned divisions: Late Model, Modified, Sportsman, Street Stock and Hornet. New for 2007 is the addition of the C.A.R.S. Late Models.

June 16 is the Street Stock Saturday Night Special – part of the FAST FIVE Racer Appreciation series—with Street Stocks racing for $500 to win, plus the Faster Pastor race.

June 23 is Miles Chevrolet Night featuring a Wynn’s Mile Qualifier for the Hogan Grain/Kubota Sportsman and the Kids Box Car races previously scheduled for May 26.

June 30 is 95Q Night at Macon Speedway featuring the Firecracker 40’s.

July 20 is Night of NASCAR Stars III at Macon Speedway featuring an appearance by NASCAR Star Tony Stewart plus others.

NASCAR Stars Kenny Wallace, Ken Schrader, Tony Stewart and local Promoter Bob Sargent purchased Macon Speedway in January of 2007.
