Justin Kay takes second Spooktacular win at Davenport Speedway
by Mike McGuire

DAVENPORT, IA (Sept 29) - The 4th Annual Fall Spooktacular was held
Saturday at the Davenport Speedway. Over one hundred and forty racecars graced
the pit area of the track for the event, presented by the Quad Cities Racing
Connection and Quad City Salvage Auction.
When the final checkered flag had flown, it was Justin Kay of Wheatland, Iowa
taking home the top prize of $1,000, in the 4 Cylinder Stock feature. The
victory was Kay's second Spooktacular win. His first win came in 2005.
Kay jumped out to an early lead in the race, after starting in the fourth
position. Pole sitter and Justin's father, Ricky Kay would follow his son to a
second place finish. Jeremy Campbell finished in third, with Chuck Schmitz and
Matt Montoya rounding out the top five.
Mike Zemo Jr. also captured his second Spooktacular win in the V-8 Modified
class. Bob 'the Dominator' Dominacki held the early lead after starting on the
pole. Zemo was able to get by Dominacki and held off Dan Chapman down the
stretch to capture the win. Dominacki held on for third, finishing ahead of Milo
Veloz Jr. and John Bull. In post-race inspection, Veloz was too light at the
scales and was disqualified.
In B-mod action, Brad Pershy rocketed through the field to take the feature win.
Pershy started 12th in the race and was aided in his march to the front by
several caution flags. Kory Meyer also advanced nicely, starting ninth and
finishing second. Joe Jones Jr. took third with Jake Waterman fourth.
Racin' Jason Bahrs took the win in a caution-shortened Street Stock A-main.
Bahrs got around Toby Spicer to get the lead before the final caution flag flew
to secure the win. Spicer would be disqualified in tech inspection, moving
Andrew Burk up to second and Brendan Driscoll to third. Terry Rittmer and Jerry
Merkes rounded out the top five.
Sheldon Hunter topped the field in the Hobby Stock feature. Hunter dominated the
race that was littered with yellow flags. Chris Zogg finished second with Tyler
Soppe third. Matt Wilson was fourth and Mike Lief Jr. fifth.
Greg Rossell took the win in the Mod Lite feature race.
