$12K to Van Wormer!!!

EAST MOLINE, IA (Oct 2 ) - A who’s who of the nation’s top drivers checked into the pits Sunday afternoon to compete in the biggest race the Quad Cities as seen in a long time. Drivers from Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, Wisconsin, California, Iowa, and Illinois were all there to take a chance at the $12,000 payday. After the group quality was over the heat races were set. Jeep Van Wormer in the 55 took heat one, Wayne Chinn in the 1 won heat race two, and Matt Miller in the 7 picked off the third heat. The top six in those heat races transferred to the feature event and the rest of the drivers had to run the semi-feature. California’s Eric Jacobsen in the 5 won the semi-feature with the IMCA National Champion, Darrel DeFrance, taking second. Those two would go onto the feature. The 20 car field was now set and ready to run for the $12,000. At the drop of green Matt Miller grabbed the early lead and looked like the man to beat as he started to build a lead. Darren Miller in the 32D was putting a lot of pressure early on Wayne Chinn for third. The first yellow of the race came at lap 19 for the 5 of Eric Jacobsen. On the restart Matt Miller jumped out to another good sized lead. Meanwhile Dennis Erb Jr. was moving through the pack and giving Darren Miller everything he could for fourth. D. Miller and Erb would catch Chinn and then Shannon Babb would catch them three and make it a four car battle for third. Jeep Van Wormer in second started reeling in Matt Miller for the lead. Around this time Chinn started separated himself from D. Miller, Erb Jr., and Babb. Back up front Van Wormer caught M. Miller and they started running side by side for several laps. Then they got into lapped traffic and Van Wormer used that to his advantage and got by M. Miller for the lead. Then Chinn began running down M. Miller for second but ran out of time as the rain began to fall on Quad City Raceway and after 53 laps the race was called complete. Jeep Van Wormer left the Quad Cities $12,000 richer. Matt Miller took second followed by Wayne Chinn, Darren Miller, and Dennis Erb Jr. rounded out the top five.

The 4 Cylinders ran as the support class for the night and Curtis Sample in the 22 won heat one, Justin Kay in the 15K won heat two, and Lonnie Gibson Jr. in the 75 won heat three. In the feature Shawn Pappas in the 13 took the early lead. Joe Zrostlik in the Z50 wasted no time getting to the front. After running side by side for several laps Zrostlik finally got by Pappas and took over the lead. Pappas stayed with Zrostlik the rest of the way but couldn’t get by him. Zrostlik took the checkered followed by Pappas, Kay, Rob Harding, and Gibson Jr. rounded out the top five.

Everyone from Stuart Motorsports, Inc. would like to thank all the drivers, fans, and sponsors for making this night a success. The next event for Stuart Motorsports, Inc. will be the 14th Annual Reinhart Memorial on Sunday, October 7th.
