Spotlight on “The Ladies of Racing“, Vendor Booths almost sold out!

SPRINGFIELD, ILL (Dec 21) - The 5th Annual MIDWEST SPEED EXPO Racers Trade Show and Swap Meet to be held on January 12-13, 2008 in Springfield, Illinois at the ORR Building on the Illinois State Fairgrounds is rapidly approaching a sold out vendor status. With less than a dozen booth spaces remaining the show is sure to once again be a sold out event!

This year, the spotlight will be on the “Ladies of Racing”. Several prominent ladies of racing will be on hand to meet and greet visitors to the show at various hours of the show weekend.

Among the exciting attractions at this years event will be the guest appearance of 15 year old Miranda Throckmorton, believed to be the FIRST EVER female to win a 410 Non-Winged Sprint Car feature event with her win on May 19th at the Paragon Speedway in Paragon, Indiana. Visitors to the show are invited to meet and greet one of the most promising future stars of the sport and get an up close look at her high horsepower mount that she will campaign with the Midwest All Star Sprint Car Series in 2008! Find out about Miranda at www.mirandathrockmorton.com

Joining Miranda at the show will be FORD Focus Midget veteran, 17 year old Shannon “Miss Excitement” McIntosh who will add UMP Dirt Late Models to her resume this summer as she campaigns her Team Sixteen dirt late model under the watchful eye and direction of former UMP National Champion Tony Izzo, Jr.. Find out more about Shannon at www.shannonmcintosh.com

Also on hand we are honored to have Mrs. Joyce Standridge, author of several well noted racing books including INSIDE HERMAN’S WORLD - The Kenny Wallace Story and GOTTA RACE - The Life of Ken Schrader as well as being a monthly contributor to Speedway Illustrated Magazine. Joyce has spent an entire lifetime involved in dirt track racing and brings a fresh perspective from her experiences. Joyce will have copies of her books on hand and available for purchase, other media representatives expected to be on hand are “The Dolls of Dirt”, Miranda Simpson and Jefra Bland who are the co-hosts of the action packed interactive online radio show that can be heard at www.racefanradio.com. They dish the dirt on one of the most popular racing shows each week and look forward to meeting everyone at the show on UMP championship weekend!

A spotlight on females in racing would not be complete without including Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway promoter Sherri Heckenast and her associates who will be on hand on Saturday to discuss the 2008 K.L.M.S. season plans with show attendees. The Chicago area native brings a diverse background to the sport, growing up in a racing family and now promoting one of the Midwest most discussed speed plants which features several of the years marquee events!

We are pleased to announce as well, the all new MIDWEST SPEED Driver of the Year Award dedicated in memory of my mother Cindy Young who lost a battle to cancer in July. The award will be presented at the 5th Annual Expo on Sunday to a deserving driver who accomplished outstanding achievement during the “07 season . The award will include $500.00 cash and product certificates for the winning driver provided by Poske Performance Parts and WICK Oil, as well as a beautiful custom 6‘ trophy by Champion Awards provided by Decatur Used Auto‘s!

Show hours for the MIDWEST SPEED EXPO are 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. on both Saturday and Sunday. The shortened hours on Saturday will allow more time for exhibitors to prepare for attendance at the United Midwestern Promoters (UMP) Late Model, Modified, Sportsman, Street Stock and 4 Cylinder divisions banquet held in Springfield in conjunction with the expo. The U.M.P. DIRTcar banquet will find itself in a new home for 2008 as a move is made from the HILTON in downtown Springfield to the luxurious CROWNE PLAZA Hotel located conveniently off of Interstate 55 on Dirksen Parkway.

What better way to spend a wintery Saturday or Sunday just before the start of the new season? The MIDWEST SPEED EXPO is your opportunity to look over and purchase both new and used parts for your racing program as well as to talk with representatives from area tracks to catch up on any rule changes. Also on hand will be representatives from chassis manufacturers as well as shock, wheel, fuel, tires and safety equipment to answer any questions you may have.
