By Dan Stewart with help from DeeDee

FARMER CITY, IL (Aug 2) - For all the folks who left right after the late model race tonight at Farmer City, you left to early! The best race of the night was the Street Stock Feature. The heat winners Josh Griffith and Jim Quinn started on the front row, followed by Greg Rubenacker and Terry Miller. Griffith and Quinn battled for the lead the entire race, racing side by side for several laps and Terry Miller was right on their tails trying to find a way around them. Griffith led, Quinn led, Griffith led again and it really was a three way race for first. The three fast lead cars were in turn when two slower cars got together on the front stretch to bring out the only caution. Also, Chris Tackett and Rubenacker had quite the battle going for fourth. At the restart Griffith leads followed by Quinn. Then Rubenacker car then has a problem and heads for the infield. At this point it was back to the Griffith, Quinn and Miller show. In the end, Josh Griffith wins followed by Jim Quinn, Terry Miller and Chris Tackett. This really was an awesome race.

The sportsman feature was another exciting race, as Gary Turpin held off Joel Funk, Jason Unzicker and Greg Kimmons. Heat winners were Jason Unzicker and Gary Turpin.

With twenty six modified taking time trials, Denny Schwartz turned in fast time. Schwartz went on to win his heat over Jeff Leka, Jeb Friedman and Chad Osterfhoff. The second heat went to Jay Ledford over Chad Evans and, Denny Wilson and Jeremy Nichols. The third heat went to Mckay Wenger in an exciting battle over Justin DeLong, Cory Schwengel and Wes O'Dell. The semi feature went to Jeff Curl over Marty Hiser.

The twenty lap feature went the distance under the green flag. Denny Schwartz took the initial lead, followed very closely by Ledford, Wenger and Leka. Finally with three laps to go, UMP National points leader Leka worked his way around Schwartz for the win, Followed by Schwartz, Jay Ledford, Mckay Wenger and Justin DeLong. Rounding out the top twelve were Chad Evans, Jeb Friedman, Cory Schwengel, Chad Osterhoff, Jeremy Nichols, Randy Huffman and Denny Wilson.

The Kidmodz heat race went to Heidi Goodman, with Bobby Pierce taking the feature win.

Hornet heat winners were Matt Musgrave and Joe Reed. The feature was kind of crazy as mechanical problems was the theme of the night. Joe Reed takes off for the lead and the race was for second between David Reed and Matt Musgrave. Then Musgrave appears to blow a motor as he heads into turn two. Now its Reed Racing battling for the lead, side by side, when something apparently breaks on the Joe Reed's car and he slows way down, then another car looses a tire and it raced down the back stretch while the race continued. In the end, David Reed wins followed by Shawn Garrison, Eric Wilson. Not sure what place the tire finished.

In the Late Model class, twenty seven drivers ran time trials, with Scott Schmitt hitting the track next to last, turning in fast time at 13.099 seconds. The first heat went to Eric Smith over Wes Steidinger, Kerby Damery and Aaron Ricketts. After an altercation with promoter Don Hammer, Steidinger was scratched for the evening and was asked to leave the fairgrounds. The second heat went to Derek Chandler over Jimmy Dehm, Ryan Unzicker and Brandon Sheppard. The third heat went to Steve Sheppard Jr over Joe Harlan, Daren Friedman and Donny Walden. The semi feature went to Scott Bull over Gary Schalmo and Jimmy Felker Jr.

Come feature time, Derek Chandler took the early lead from the outside front row. With the lightning fast, ultra smooth track Chandler was turning laps faster in the feature than in time trials. The first eight laps were all Chandler, with Eric Smith hounding him for the lead. Smith took the lead from Chandler on lap eight, and four laps later, Chandler's car broke. Smith would go on to win the feature, followed by Steve Sheppard Jr, Donny Walden, Ryan Unzicker and Joe Harlan.
