Seven Different Race Nights, Seven Different A Modified Winners
By: Ed Potter

EAST MOLINE (June 27, 2010) - Although only one division of racing had a repeat winner, the SNI of Geneseo A Modified is the only division to have a new winner every race night this year at Quad City Speedway.  Once more the racing surface was in excellent condition and by feature timeit was smooth, dry and slick.  The Extreme Auto Glass Street Stock feature had a rough time getting going as numerous cautions flew early including one for Mike Anderson, who rolled his car in turn four.  Mike was OK and exited his race car unassisted.  Pole sitter, Rick Schriner grabbed the lead on the drop of the green, but with the cautions the field was kept up tight behind him.  Matt Werner went out front on lap six and never looked back as he went on for his third win of the season.  Schriner held on for second with Dwaine Hasson coming from his twelfth place starting spot to take third.  Jerame Mowery was fourth with Ron Marks Jr coming back to take fifth after being involved in earlier cautions.  Chris Lawrence and Joe Beal took the heat race wins.

After winning the Verplaetse Excavating IMCA Modified heat race Greg Durbin used hi pole starting spot to take the early lead of the feature, with Jake Waterman in tow.  After a caution on lap two Waterman took over the point on the restart.  Durbin wasn’t giving up and returned to the front on lap four.  As Durbin led a battle for second was forming behind him between Andrew Burk and Ray Cox Jr.  Greg Durbin went on for his first victory of the season with Burk second and Cox third.  Waterman came back through the pack to take fourth with Jerry Durbin fifth.

The caution only flew twice during the twenty lap SNI of Geneseo A Modified feture, but neither time was going to change the outcome of the race.  On the start outside front row starter, Thad Wilson jumped out in front and wasn’t letting anyone catch him.  Wilson went on to take his first win of the season and become the seventh new face in victory lane in seven races.  First heat winner, John Bull was a strong second with second heat winner, Donovan Lodge taking third over Craig Crawford’s fourth.  After being one of two cars not to pass heat race post race inspection Milo Veloz Jr battled his way through the pack from his fifteenth starting spot to round out the top five.

The caution flew six rimes during the thirty lap Sexton Ford IMCA Late Model feature, but to actually be fair two of those were for debris.  Mike Garland took the early lead with first heat winner, Rob Toland taking over on lap three.  By lap four Ray Guss Jr had came from ninth up to fourth.  By lap ten Guss was up putting the pressure on toland.  One lap later Guss went into the lead with Toland and second heat winner, Mike Murphy Jr in a side by side battle behind him.  In a last lap charge Toland got back by Guss in turn two to go on for his first win this season.  Guss Held on for second with Murphy taking third.  Todd Malmstrom was fourth with Eric Gustaf fifth.

On his first visit to the Quad City Speedway Ken Butterfield not only won the first heat of the Aaron’s Affordable Towing 4 Cylinder division, he came back to take the lead of the feature from second heat winner, Bryce Garnhart on a sixth lap restart.  Butterfield led the rest of the way to take the victory.  After droping as far back as sixth, Chad Tucker made a last lap charge to take second.  Garnhart held on for third with Gabe Schrader taking fourth.  Coming from the last place starting spot Scott Powell took fifth.

After the regular racing program Mechanic’s races were won by Ron Anderson, Brad Pershy, Tony Sollis and Kyle Munson.  Don’t forget this coming Sunday will be the running of the J & J Camper/Robert’s Software/SNI of Geneseo Ron Weedon Memorial race for A Modifieds.  This race will run thirty laps and pay one thousand dollars to the winner.  The Sexton Ford IMCA Late Models will also be running for a thousand to win their thirty lap feture.  All other classes will also be racing.
