Ryan and Bechen Get First Quad City Speedway Wins
by: Ed Potter

EAST MOLINE, IL (July 26) - It was Sexton Ford night at the Quad City Speedway Sunday and considering the weather over the last few days the track was in pretty good shape.  The pit area was full and the competitions hot.  Chris Lawrence grabbed the lead of the Extreme Auto Glass Street Stock feature with Matt Werner taking over on lap three.  For the first half of the race Lawrence and Rick Schriner fought for second.  Despite three cautions Werner wasn’t giving any as he tent on for his fifth points race win of the season.  Schriner was second with ninth place starter, Joe Beal third.  First heat winner, Tony VonDresky came home fourth with second heat winner, Ron Marks Jr fifth.

Heat winner, Todd Dykema took the early lead of the Verplaetse Excavating IMCA Modified feature holding off Jerry Durbin for the first lap.  On lap two Durbin charged by and never  looked back despite four restarts.  It was Durbin’s second win this year.  Andrew Burk was second followed by Joe Jones Jr, Dykema and Hunter Wilson, in that order.

Andy Warner jumped out in front of the SNI of Geneseo A Modified feture on the drop of the green with Donovan Lodge in tow.  On lap two Lodge edged out front and one lap later the caution flew for Milo Veloz Jr on the front straight.  The caution only flew one more time during this entire race and that was on lap five.  By this time Veloz had worked his way back to seventh.  By lap ten first heat winner, John Bull was putting pressure on Lodge.  At lap sixteen Bull went out front with Lodge keeping the pressure on him.  Bull took his second win of the year with Lodge right there for second.  Ryan Dolan was third with Veloz coming back to take fourth.  Jason Pershy rounded out the top five.  Doug Crampton won the other heat.

The Sexton Ford IMCA Late Model feature had Jeremy Gustaf snatch the early lead.  On lap two Rob Toland moved out front with Jeremy and Adam Oppendike battling side by side for sedond.  It was a rough night for point leader, Ray Guss Jr as at lap five he became involved with a corner tire bringing out the caution.  Four cautions later it was Guss up against the wall in turn three.  On lap thirteen Matt Ryan edged out front with Toland coming back to lead lap fourteen.  Ryan moved back out front on lap fifteen, but Toland wasn’t ready to give up yet.  The last three laps had Ryan out front on the high side with Toland right there on the bottom.  Ryan took his first win of the season with Toland second.  In the last couple of laps Todd Malmstrom moved in to take third with Mike Garland fourth.  Guss raced his way back up through the field to Grab fifth.  Eric Gustaf and Garland took the heats.

Twenty of the twenty-two cars on hand made the call for the Aaron’s Affordable Towing 4 Cylinder feture and Gabe Schrader took the early lead.  Before the field could make it around to complete the first lap Schrader lost a wheel bringing out the caution.  On  the restart Brannon Bechen went to the front and never looked back.  On his first visit to the speedway Bechen took his first win of the season.  Also on his first visit, Tyler Etherton was second.  Todd Sibley took third with another newcomer, Chris Holmlund fourth.  Justin Veloz rounded out the top five.  Matt Parrott, Virgil Paul Jr and Sibley were the heat winners.
