Fluegel Only New Quad City Speedway Winner
By: Ed Potter

EAST MOLINE (August 22) - On a beautiful Sunday evening for racing the track was in such good shape only one caution flew in the entire thirteen qualifying races at Quad City Speedway on Extreme Auto Glass Night.  Four divisions had repeat feature winners with only one new winner being crowned.  Twenty-one of the twenty-two Extreme Auto Glass Street Stock cars made the feature call and only one of these cars wasn’t on the track at the checkers.  The race almost ran caution free as the only caution flew on the white flag lap for a single car spin ending the race.  Matt Werner took the lead on the drop of the green and never relinquished it.  Werner took his sixth win of the year.  Chris Lawrence chased him all the way but had to settle for second.  Ron Marks Jr came from his eleventh place starting spot for third with Rick Schriner fourth and R.J. Gonzales fifth.

Mike Fluegel became the only new winner of the evening as he led the Verplaetse Excavating IMCA Modified feature flag to flag for the victory.  Sixth place strter, Jake Waterman was second with Perry Gellerstedt taking third.  The Durins were fourth and fifth with Greg taking fourth and Jerry fifth.  Two drivers were disqualified for rough driving during this event.

The SNI of Geneseo A Modified feature ran straight through the entire twenty laps without a stop for anything.  Doug Crampton grabbed the early lead with John Bull taking over on lap four.  The top five cars pretty much ran in a abunch the entire twenty laps.  Bull took his third win of the season with Crampton holding on for second.  Milo Veloz Jr was third with Ray Bollinger moving in to take fourth in the last six laps over Jason Pershy’s fifth.

Jeremy Gustaf jumped out front of the Sexton Ford IMCA Late Model feature and held on through a couple of early cautions in the first two laps.  On lap four Rob Toland moved out front in a car borrowed from Ron Gustaf.  By lap seven eleventh place starter, Mike Murphy Jr was running second.  On lap ten the races only other caution came out for Murphy in the wall entering turn three.  With the field tightened back up it was Toland back out front on the restart.  At lap nineteen twelfth place starter, Ray Guss Jr moved out front and never looked back as he sailed on for his ninth victory of the season.  Toland held on for second with ninth place starter, Eric Gustaf taking third.  Shawn Mulvany was fourth with Matt Ryan fifth.

Bobby Barker took the early lead of the twenty-two car Aaron’s Affordable Towing 4 Cylinder feature and held it for the first three laps until on lap four Aaron Hitt went to the front.  The races second and last caution came out on lap eight and on the restart it was Chad Tucker out front.  Tucker went on for his seventh trip to victory lane this year.  It appeared Mitch Bielenberg was second, but he was penalized to the back of the lap for jumping the start on the restart.  Justin Veloz ended up taking second with Barker holding on for third.  Wade Dahl was fourth with Rob Harding Sr coming through the field to take fifth after being involved in the eighth lap caution.  Next Sunday will be the Season Championship races in all divisions.
