Engines Of Top-Three Finishers In DIRTcar UMP Pro Late Model Nationals At Tri-City Speedway Declared Legal

GRAYVILLE, IL (Oct. 20, 2010) – The engines used by the top-three finishers in the DIRTcar UMP Pro Late Model Nationals on Oct. 9 at Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Ill., have been deemed legal after a thorough inspection, DIRTcar officials announced on Tuesday.

Scott Weber of Festus, Mo., was officially credited with the $2,500 victory in the 40-lap A-Main that ended the 2010 DIRTcar UMP points season for the Pro Late Model division. Weber’s 18th overall triumph of the 2010 also put an exciting cap on his first-ever DIRTcar UMP Pro Late Model national points championship.

Bobby Pierce, a 13-year-old second-generation sensation from Oakwood, Ill., had his second-place finish in Tri-City’s special event ratified by officials and Dustin Griffin of Camp Point, Ill., was declared the third-place finisher in the race. Pierce and Griffin finished second and fifth, respectively, in the 2010 DIRTcar UMP Pro Late Model national points standings.

DIRTcar officials had the crews of Weber, Pierce and Griffin remove their cars’ crate engines following the Pro Late Model Nationals event and impounded them for further inspection. Two motors were sent to one location and one was sent to another for complete disassembly and inspection to determine that they complied with GM specifications.

All three engines were found to meet the rules, freeing the drivers to receive their portions of the event’s posted payoff and receive DIRTcar UMP points.

“This is something we have to do periodically in the Pro Late Model division to make sure that competitors are all on the same page,” said DIRTcar UMP director Sam Driggers. “We’re happy to announce that all three engines were thoroughly inspected and were legal to GM specifications.”

Weber will receive his $10,000 prize for winning the Pro Late Model national title during the annual DIRTcar UMP ‘Night of Champions’ Awards Banquet on Jan. 8, 2011, at the Crown Plaza in Springfield, Ill. Ticket orders forms for the gala evening will be mailed out and available on-line at www.dirtcar.com by Nov. 1.
