by Ed Potter

EAST MOLINE, IL (May 9, 2011) - It was a great evening for racing Sunday at Quad City Speedway and the racing surface was ingreat condition.  The surface allowed for two, three and even four wide racing all evening.  After wining the Sexton Ford IMCA Late Model second heat race Ray Guss Jr came back to take the lead of the feature to the cheers of the crowd on the second lap.  The first half of the race Guss had to hold off the challenges of Rob Toland.  Mike Murphy Jr moved into second for the second half of the race and kept the pressure on Guss.  Guss went on for the victory admitting after the race that Hershel Roberts was with him talking him through the win.  Murphy held on for second with Toland third.  First lap leader, Shawn Mulvany was fourth with Matt Ryan fifth.

Utilizing his front row starting spot to it’s full advantage, Matt Werner led the Affordable Parking Lot A Modified feature flag to flag for the win.  The real action was going on behind him as Brandon Durbin and Doug Crampton battled, often side by side, for second.  Crampton ended up with the spot with Durbin third.  Ryan Dolin was fourth with John Bull fifth.

Front row starter, Timmy Current led the Extreme Auto Glass Street Stock feature flag to flag for the victory.  Rob Henry fought his was from ninth to take second with Phil Anderson third, Chris Lawrence fourth and Rick Schriner fifth.

Jason Petska grabbed the early lead of the Verplaetse Excavating IMCA Modified feature with ninth place starter, Jake Waterman taking over on lap three.  Soon Waterman was holding off the challenges of Thad Wilson, and Waterman wasn’t going to let history repeat itself.  Waterman took the win with Wilson second.  Mitch Morris was third followed by Craig Crawford and Greg Durbin, in that order.

Zach Dahl took the early lead of the Aaron’s Affordable Towing 4 Cylinder feature.  On lap four the field came by with a four car wide battle for the lead as Jake Ellithorpe edging out front.  One lap later Jason Blocker was disqualified for rough driving as somehow Justin Veloz ended up in the wall.  Ellithorpe went to take the victory with Brent Terry second and Bryce Garnhart third.  Brandon Dahl was fourth as Mike Wisdom came home fifth.
