Webb and Wisdom Get First Wins
by Ed Potter

EAST MOLINE, IL (June 5, 2011) - It was a beautiful evening for racing Sunday at Quad City Speedway and a good crowd was on hand to enjoy a nice field of race cars vie for the honors of visiting Victory Circle.  A wonderfully prepared racing surface made for some interesting and exciting qualifying races.  The Verplaetse Excavating IMCA Modified feature had Mark Vervynck jump into the early lead, but at lap five he was involved in a caution and had to go to the rear.  On the lap six restart Thad Wilson charged out front and went on for his second win of the season.  After chasing Wilson all the way Jake Waterman had to settle for second with Craig Crawford third.  Eleventh place starter, T. J. Patz was fourth with Milo Veloz Jr, also involved in that fifth lap caution, coming back to take fifth.

After some early cautions shaking up the field of the Extreme Auto Glass Street Stock feature Jerame Mowery led the first lap.  On lap two Rob Henry went to the front after starting ninth.  Henry sailed on for his second trip to Victory Circle this season.  Proving it doesn’t matter where you start, twelfth place starter, Nathan Hall was second.  Chris Lawrence was third over Emily Gade’s fourth and Cary Brown’s fifth.

Pole sitter, Brad Tyler led the first lap of the Affordable Parking Lot A Modified feature with John Bull taking over on a lap two restart.  Bull went on for his second win of the year.  In the lapst three laps Doug Crampton moved in to put the pressure on, but had to settle for second.  Brandon Durbin was third with Jason Pershy fourth and Ryan Dolan fifth.

The most thrilling race of the night came in the Sexton Ford IMCA Late Model feature.  A past track champion from quite a few years ago, Gary Webb started on the pole and snatched the lead on the drop of the green.  By lap five seventh place starter, Mike Murphy Jr and eleventh place starter, Ray Guss Jr moved into second and third.  At lap nine Murphy brought out a yellow as he coasted to a halt coming off turn four.  On the restart the battle was on with Webb out front and Guss chasing him.  The last five laps Guss really put the pressure on even getting the nose up beside Webb, but Webb wasn’t to be denied.  Webb took his first win of the season with Guss second.  Rob Toland was third with Eric Gustaf fourth and Mike Garland fifth.

The actual first race of the evening to hit the track was a make up feature for the Aaron’s Affordable Towing 4 Cylinder division.  Mike Cusack grabbed the early lead with Mike Wisdom taking over on lap six.  On lap seven Rob Brasher charged by and appeared to go on for the win.  Brasher was disqualified as he wasn’t running the car he had qualified two weeks ago.  This gave Mike Wisdom his first feature win of the year.  Second went to Brandon Dahl with Wade Dahl third.  Justin Veloz and Dustin Forbes rounded out the top five.  The regular night’s feature had Aaron Hitt take the early lead.  Unfortunately Hitt lost a wheel three laps later to bring out the caution.  On the restart it was Wade Dahl out front and going on for his second win of the year.  Jake Ellithorpe was second followed by Steven Phillips, Justin Veloz, and Rick Wagner, in that order.
