Vervynck and Bahrs Get First Quad City Speedway Victories
by Ed Potter

EAST MOLINE, IL (June 19, 2011) - Sunday at Quad City Speedway there were some exciting qualifying races, which included Mike Wisdom rolling his 4 Cylinder car in his heat race.  Mike said his shoulder was a little sore but that he was OK.  Wisdom did go get another car and made the feature call.  The Verplaetse Excavating IMCA Modified feature had Drew Otten snatch the lead at the drop of the green, but when he got to turn four he spun in front of the pack.  On the restart Joe Jones took over the lead, but that didn’t last long as Mark Vervynck took over on lap two.  Vervynck went on to take his first win of the year despite the challenges of Greg Durbin and Milo Veloz Jr.  As it was Veloz took second with Durbin third.  Craig Crawford was fourth and Perry Gellerstedt fifth.

Chuck Fox took the early lead of the Extreme Auto Glass Street Stock Feature and held on for the first eight laps.  At lap nine Jason Bahrs moved out front and went on for his first win of the season.  Fox held on for second with Chris Lawrence third.  Last place starter, Rob Henry was fourth with Rick Schriner taking fifth.

Pole Sitter, Shaune Lewis grabbed the early lead of the Affordable Parking Lot A Modified feature.  By lap seven John Bull and Jason Pershy were in a battle for second with Doug Crampton moving in.  with three laps to go Bull moved out front and went on for his third win of the year.  Lewis held on for second with Pershy third and Crampton fourth.  Ryan Dolan rounded out the top five.

The Sexton Ford IMCA Late Model feature had a bit of a rough time getting started as coming to take the green about five cars piled in turn four sencing Ray Guss Jr to the pits for quick repairs.  By the time the track was cleared and the race ready to start Guss was back and starting dead last.  Mike Cothron took the early lead with Mike Murphy Jr moving into second by lap four.  By lap eight Guss had moved into fifth.  On a ninth lap restart Murphy took over the point and by lap fifteen Guss was second.  After running side by side the last few laps in a true last lap charge Guss took his third win of the year as Murphy held on for second.  Cothron was third with Nate Beuseling fourth over Todd Malmstrom’s fifth.

The Mod Lites made their first visit to QCS this year and front row starter, Jason Masengals took the early lead of the feature, but spun four laps later while leading, sending him to the rear.  On the restart it was David Norton out front with Jonathan Huston in hot pursuit.  On lap seven Huston moved out front and by lap ten Masengals had worked his way back up to second.  With three laps to go Masengals went back out front and on for the win.  Huston held on for second with Anthony Guss third.  Rob Guss was fourth with Norton holding on for fifth.

Third place starter, Aaron Hitt took the earlylead of the Aaron’s Affordable Towing 4 Cylinder feature with Jake Ellithorpe and Rick Wagner in tow.  By the mid-race point eleventh place starter, Steven Phillips had moved into third.  Hitt went on for his second win in as many races with Phillips taking second.  Ellithorpe was third with Mike Morrow fourth.  Wagner held on for fifth.
