Hull goes back-to-back with Macon win

MACON, Ill. (July 30, 2011) – Jerrod Hull became the first repeat winner of Illinois Sprint Week 2011 with a wire-to-wire victory at Macon Speedway.

Twenty three cars signed in to do battle on the 1/5th mile with 18 cars starting the evening’s feature event for the Monster Energy Sprint Car Series.

Hull dominated the majority of the feature event, but had to survive a pair of restarts in the final three laps to pick up the win.

Jimmy Hurley running in second spun in turns three and four, collecting third place running A.J. Bruns with three laps remaining. The incident brought Danny Smith to second setting up a reverse finish from the night before.

At Jacksonville, Hull used a late race caution to slide Smith for a win. Smith looked to do the same and had two shots at it in the final three laps, Saturday.

Smith said afterward he didn’t have a good enough car to get there, as Hull pulled off a pair of near perfect restarts to hold onto the win.

The event finished with Smith in second and Chris Urish in third.

Tonight is the final night of Illinois Sprint Week, as the 410 sprinters end the week at Shepp’s Speedway in Alexandria, Ill. Pit Gates open at 3.
