Repeat Winners Abound at Quad City Speedway
by Ed Potter

EAST MOLINE (August 7, 2011) - Sunday evening proved to be a night for drivers to prove they could do it more than once, at Quad City Speedway.  Every feature winner of the night was doing it for at least the second time.  Front row starter, Jerry Durbin grabbed the lead of the Verplaetse Excavating IMCA Modified feature, but at lap nine had a drive shaft break and was sidelined.  On the restart Mitch Morris moved out front and went on to take his second win of the year.  With three laps to go Thad Wilson moved in to take second.  Eleventh place starter, Leland Bushong avoided becoming involved in anything despite an over abundance of cautions, and came home third.  Eric Barnes was fourth with fifteenth place starter, Craig Crawford fifth.

A six car pile up on the third lap of the Extreme Auto Glass Street Stock feature included early leader, Nick Lawrence.  On the restart Rob Henry charged out front and never looked back as he went on for his third victory of the season.  On a last lap charge Rick Schriner moved up to take second with Emily Gade third.  Early challenger, Phil Anderson was fourth with Chuck Fox fifth.

Scott Fridley led the first lap of the Affordable Parking Lots A Modified feature with Doug Crampton and Brandon Durbin going by on lap two.  Crampton held on to lead the rest of the way and take his second win of the point season.  A hard fought battle between Durbin and Ryan Dolan had Durbin take second with Dolan third.  John Bull was fourth over Brian Bushong’s fifth.

After winning his heat race, Travis Denning took the lead of the caution free Sexton Ford IMCA Late Model feature on the drop of the green and had things pretty well in his control.  At lap fifteen he was starting into lap traffic and at lap sixteen Ray Guss Jr moved into second.  Guss slowly started to chase Denning down.  With three laps to go Denning and Guss were side by side trying to get by a lap car.  The white flag lap had Guss get by and go on for his sixth win of this year.  Denning held on for second followed by Mike Cothron, Mike Zemo Jr and Eric Gustaf, in that order.

Another caution free feature was the Aaron’s Affordable Towing 4 Cylinder feature.  Brandon Dahl used his front row starting spot to take the lead and held off the challenges of Aaron Hitt until the mid race point.  On lap seven Hitt went out front and on for his fifth win of the season.  Brandon held on for second holding off the advances o third place finisher, Jake Ellithorpe.  Zach Dahl was fourth with Mike Wisdom fifth.
