Malmstrom Puts His Ford in the Winner’s Circle
by: Ed Potter

EAST MOLINE, IL (August 21, 2011) - It was another great night for racing Sunday and the Quad City Speedway provided the action.  Rob Nylin added a little extra action in the qualifying races as he laid his race car on it’s side in one of the 4 cylinder qualifiers.  The car was pushed back on to its wheels and he continued on in the race.  After having some hard luck earlier in the season, Todd Malmstrom got things turned around Sunday as he won his heat and started on the pole of the Sexton Ford IMCA Late model feature.  Malmstrom leaped out front on the start and never looked back as he led all twenty-five laps to the checkers and his first win of the year.  Mike Zemo Jr was second with Nate Beuseling coming from seventh to take third.  Gary Webb was fourth with Matt Ryan fifth.

Scott Fridley grabbed the early lead of the hard fought Affordable Parking Lots A Modified feature and was soon being challenged by seventh place starter, John Bull.  On lap nine Bull edged by with Fridley coming back on lap eleven.  On lap thirteen Ryan Dolan, driving a car he usually drives in Tipton on Friday nights, went out front and on for his fourth win of the season.  Eighth place starter, Brandon Durbin took second with Bull holding on for third.  The father and son team of Leland Bushong and Brian Bushong were fourth and fifth.

After winning his heat race Greg Durbin took the early lead of the Verplaetse Excavating IMCA Modified feature with the other heat winner, Milo Veloz Jr coming from his sixth place starting spot to take over on lap seven.  Veloz went on to take his third win of the year with Durbin holding on for second.  Eighth place starter, Thad Wilson was third followed by Mitch Morris and Craig Crawford, in that order.

Front row starter, Cord Williams grabbed the early lead of the Extreme Auto Glass Street Stock feature, but it didn’t last long.  On lap three third heat winner, Rob Henry ncarged by and never looked back as he sailed on for his fourth trip to the winner’s circle this year.  Second heat winner, Chuck Fox was second with Chris Lawrence third.  First heat winner, Rick Schriner came from ninth to take fourth over Phil Anderson’s fifth.

Zach Dahl started on the front row of the Aaron’s Affordable Towing 4 Cylinder feature and took the lead on the start with Jake Ellithorpe coming from sixth to take over on lap three.  Ellithorpe went on to take his third victory of the year.  Eighth place starter, Jason Blocker was second with Wade Dahl third.  Last place starter, Rob Nylin took fourth over Cameron Poci’s fifth.
