Wilson and Ellithorpe Crowned Champions
by Ed Potter

EAST MOLINE, IL (September 4, 2011) - The first two races on the program Sunday at the Quad City Speedway were two make-up season Championship races.  One in the Verplaetse IMCA Modified division and the other for the Aaron’s Affordable Towing 4 Cylinders.  The first one to go was the Modified and on the drop of the green it was Thad Wilson out front with Craig Crawford in tow.  On lap two Crawford got into the turn one wall hard and was done for this race.  On the restart it was Wilson back out front now with Milo Veloz Jr trying to get to him.  No one was getting to Wolson as he sailed on to victory.  The win also insured his point championship title.  Veloz held on for second seith Greg Durbin third and Mitch Morris fourth.  Matt Stein came from his last row starting spot to take fifth.  Next up was the 4 Cylinder Champonship and Jake Ellithorpe led the caution free race from flag to flag for the win and the point title.  Aaron Hitt was second with Mike Wisdom third.  Dustin Forbes took fourth with Joe Zrostlik fifth.

The Sexton Ford Night regular program started with some great qualifying races in all divisions, but unfortunately it wasn’t so great for Jerame Mowery as he lost a motor big time in his heat race.  Mowery was the only one of twenty-one Extreme Auto Glass Street Stock cars not to make the feature call.  Emily Gade grabbed the early lead with seventh place starter, Rob Henry right on her rear bumper by lap two.  A lap six restart had Henry go out front and on for the win.  Gade held on for second with Matt Werner third, Phil Anderson fourth and Ron Marks Jr fifth.

Pole Sitter Doug Crampton snatched the lead of the Affordable Parking Lots A Modified feature and by lap eight had tenth place starter, Ryan Dolan putting the pressure on.  Four laps later Crampton coasted to a stop with mechanical woes that retired him from the race.  On the restart it was Dolan taking over and going on for the win.  John Bull was second with Shaune Lewis third.  Brian Bushong took fourth over Leland Bushong’s fifth.

Bob Toland used his pole starting spot to lead the Sexton Ford IMCA Late Model feature flag to flag for the win.  By lap ten Mike Cothron and Shawn Mulvany were putting on a show as they battled for second.  Five laps later they got together bringing out the caution.  On the restart Doug Nigh moved into second and went on to take that spot.  Last place starter, Todd Malmstrom was third with Eric Gustaf fourth.  Mulvany came back through to take fifth.

The caution free Verplaetse IMCA Modified feature had Dwaine Hasson lead the first lap with sixth place starter, Thad Wilson taking over on lap two.  Eighth place starter, Greg Durbin moved out front on lap ten and went on to the Winner’s Circle.  Wilson held on for second with tenth place starter, Milo Veloz Jr taking third.  Mitch Morris was fourth with Eric Barnes fifth.

Art Carle grabbed the early lead of the Aaron’s Affordable Towing 4 Cylinder feature, which also ran caution free again.  On lap three Jake Ellithorpe got by and there was no looking back as he sailed on to victory for the second time of the night.  Mike Wisdom was second with Dale Tucker third.  Carle held on for fourth over Brant Cole’s fifth.  There will be no racing at the Quad City Speedway Sunday Sept. 11th, but the following Sunday the Speedway will host the GaryReinhart Memorial race.
