INDEPENDENCE, Ia. (April 12, 2006)- The Indee Open Series returns in 2006 with its biggest schedule in series history. It also provides regular competitors the chance to earn the largest purse offered in its six-year existence.

Jeremiah Hurst of Dubuque will look to defend his late model title in 2006 while Troy Cordes of Raymond is the defending champion in the modified division.

The series, which expands to eight events this season, begins at Independence Motor Speedway on Wednesday, May 3. Late models, modifieds and stock cars will take part in that event. Gates will open at 4 p.m., with hot laps scheduled for 6:30 and the first green flag set to fly at 7.

The second event will be held on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, in Independence. Late models, modifieds and stock cars will take part in the holiday show. Gates for the special event will open at 3 p.m., hot laps are scheduled for 5 and the first race will take the green at 6.

Highway 3 Raceway in Allison will host the third series event on Tuesday, June 6. Late models, modifieds and hobby stocks will be in action on the 1/2-mile oval.

From there, the series will visit Mineral City Speedway in Fort Dodge for the first time in series history on Tuesday, June 13. Late models, hobby stocks and B modifieds will be on the card for the inaugural visit.

On Wednesday, July 19, the series returns home to Independence to kick off the 2006 Buchanan County Fair. Late models, modifieds and stock cars will be in action.

The following week, on Tuesday, July 25, Fayette County Raceway in West Union will host the Indee Open Series on the opening night of the Fayette County Fair. Late models, modifieds, stock cars and B modifieds will compete on the 3/8-mile oval in the series' fourth annual appearance.

Highway 3 Raceway will host a second series event on Tuesday, August 1. Late models, modifieds and hobby stocks will again comprise that evening's racing program.

The series finale will be held at Independence Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 2. Late models, modifieds, stock cars, hobby stocks and B modifieds will take part in the eighth and final event for 2006.

While late model drivers will run for $2,000-to-win in each of this season's events and the modifieds battle for $700-to-win at each show, regular series drivers will get the chance to earn a larger payday during the September 2 finale. Late model drivers who compete in seven of the eight series events will have the chance to take home $6,000 by winning the series finale. Any modified driver who competes in six of seven series events will earn a $2,000 payday with a September 2 A-feature win.

Likewise, stock car drivers who compete in at least three of the four series events are eligible to take home $1,000 with an A-feature victory on championship night.
