Bochmann books to first career I.M.C.A. hobby stock win at Independence Motor Speedway
By Ryan Clark

INDEPENDENCE, Ia (May 20, 2006) – In just his second year in an I.M.C.A. hobby stock, Ryan Bochmann checked out on the field like a seasoned veteran as he picked up his first career feature win at Independence Motor Speedway.

Bochmann, who chased pole-sitter Scott Siems for the first two laps around the 3/8-mile oval, took command on the third circuit. The event’s only caution was displayed one lap later and, following the restart, Bochmann took charge.

As Bochmann distanced himself from the field, Jeremiah Wilson, Josh Irvine and Jamie Whitaker waged war for the runner-up position. Whitaker made a last lap pass to secure the position from Wilson as Bochmann sailed to the checkers for the victory.

Shawn Fisher looked strong early in the 20-lap I.M.C.A. modified feature. From his pole position start, Fisher shot into the early lead. Mike Gill gave chase with Troy Cordes running third.

Cordes broke free from Gill on lap three and then set his sights on Fisher who had already gained a sizeable lead. The field was slowed for caution on the sixth circuit, which put Cordes on Fisher’s rear bumper for the restart.

By the time the final yellow flag waved just past the midway point of the 20-lapper Fisher maintained his lead and Scott Hogan moved into third behind Cordes. The three battled for the next few laps until Cordes made his way around the top side of Fisher with only a handful of laps remaining as he drove to his first win of the season. Hogan followed through to score runner-up honors. Points leader Jerry Luloff beat Fisher to the checkers for third.

Brian Irvine took the early lead in the 20-lap I.M.C.A. stock car main event. From his outside second row starting position, Irvine worked past pole-sitter Tony Schimmels on lap two.

Defending track champion Jarod Weepie chased Irvine to the front and settled into the runner-up position on the fifth lap. Weepie chased the leader until taking the advantage seven laps later.

The lead pair swapped paint and the lead at various times late in the race until Irvine took the lead for good on lap 18 en route to the win, his first of the season. Dallas Morin charged through the field to steal runner-up honors ahead of Nick Wroten.

Rookie B modified driver Kyle Bentley was in search of his first career win in that division. The pole-sitter paced the field through a myriad of cautions over the first handful of laps while points leader Brian Kunkle slowly worked his way through the pack.

By the time the caution waved on lap six, Kunkle worked his way into the lead. He pulled away from the field to score his third win of the season. Jim Buhlman and Joel Cox completed the top three.

The I.M.C.A. late models draw and redraw through the first two points weeks of the season per I.M.C.A. rules. The 10th of 12 drivers to redraw, Jeff Aikey was fortunate the No. 1 spoon was still in the cup.

The veteran driver started the 25-lapper on the pole and was never seriously challenged as he scored the victory ahead of fellow front row starter Dave Stricker. Curt Martin finished third.
