Goedert gets first I.M.C.A. late model victory at Independence Motor Speedway
By Ryan Clark

INDEPENDENCE, IA (Aug. 19, 2006) – One year removed from competing in a hobby stock at Farley Speedway and Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway, 19-year-old Luke Goedert has made a smooth transition into the I.M.C.A. late model division at Independence Motor Speedway.

On back-to-school night, when 49 bicycles were given away and over $1,100 in prize money was awarded to a lucky winner in the 50/50 drawing, Goedert capped the night with his first career late model win in the 25-lap feature event.

Rick Dralle held the early lead after starting outside the front row. He paced the field as Tom Struve and Goedert gave chase. Goedert made his way into second on the fifth circuit, one lap before the race was slowed for caution.

Two laps after the restart, Darren Ackerman worked the bottom side of the speedway to settle into second. Ackerman continued to run the low groove and made his bid for the lead on lap 11 with Goedert close behind.

A lap 12 caution forced Dralle to the pits, leaving Goedert on Ackerman’s rear bumper for the restart. When racing resumed, Ackerman went back to work on the bottom of the track with Goedert running high.

Goedert edged ahead at the completion of the 15th lap as Dean Wagner entered the battle at the front of the pack. Goedert ran flawlessly out front and led the final 10 laps to secure the victory. Wagner chased him to the checkers to finish second and Greg Kastli, who started 10th, raced through the field to collect third place honors.

Kevin Rose paced the field at the start of the 20-lap I.M.C.A. stock car feature. As Rose led, Jason Goedken and Justin Temeyer battled behind him.

Goedken brought out the caution on lap three, allowing Temeyer to restart on Rose’s rear bumper. Temeyer challenged the race leader for 11 laps before making his way to the front on the 15th lap. He led the remainder of the event to score the win ahead of Rose and Brian Irvine.

Josh Sherbon was in search of his first career victory in the 15-lap B modified feature. Sherbon led at the drop of the green as Joe Docekal and Brett Ladehoff made their way through traffic.

Docekal and Ladehoff battled wheel-to-wheel for second throughout much of the event as Sherbon maintained his advantage. A caution flag as the white flag waved reverted the field to a green, white, checker finish, placing Ladehoff on Sherbon’s rear bumper for the two-lap shoot-out.

Ladehoff quickly worked under Sherbon when the green flag was displayed as he drove to his third straight win at the speedway. Sherbon and Docekal chased Ladehoff to the checkers.

Troy Cordes scored his fifth win of the season in the I.M.C.A. modified division. Cordes assumed command from race leader Todd Conrad on the fifth of 20 laps to take the victory ahead of Randy Trefz and new points leader Jerry Luloff.

Jim Ball was triumphant in the 15-lap I.M.C.A. hobby stock feature. Ball took command as the white flag was displayed to score the exciting win ahead of Kevin Robinson and Chris Luloff.
