Cordes Takes Dramatic Win In BCS Thriller

VINTON, IA (Aug 5) - Scott Hogan looked dominant in the IMCA Modified feature taking the lead from Rob Olson on lap three and pacing the field for the next sixteen circuits. Todd Jensen continued his run a great performances running second behind Hogan for much of the race. A lap seventeen caution bunched up the field with Hogan leading Jensen, Jerry Luloff, and Troy Cordes. When racing resumed, Cordes slipped by Luloff on lap eighteen to run in third. As the white flag waved, Hogan still had the lead ahead of Jensen and Cordes. A turn three bobble by Hogan was all it took to place both Jensen and Cordes side by side in a drag race to the finish. At the line, mere inches separated the cars of Jensen and Cordes with Cordes coming out on top. Jensen finished second ahead of Hogan and Luloff.

Troy Burkhart captured his third straight IMCA Sport Mod feature. His win did not come easy as Danny Dvorak pursued heavily for the majority of the race. Dvorak finished second ahead of point leader Tony Olson.

Curtis Roster’s IMCA Stock Car sustained heavy damage in his heat race. The local driver loaded his car and drove downtown to his repair shop for after-hours service. Roster was able to get his machine back in time for the feature taking the lead from Paul Shephard on lap thirteen capturing the hard fought victory. Shephard finished second ahead of Scooter Dulin.

Matt Brown led flag to flag in the IMCA Hobby Stock feature to take his first win of the season. Brad Forbes takes over the point lead with his second place finish. Rod Grother finished third.

Jena Barthelmes added to her point lead in the IMCA Sport Compact feature taking the popular win. Jeremy Heim finished second ahead of Doug Laughridge.

The pair of Steggall and Lewis picked up the Cruiser feature win Taking the lead on lap five and driving away for the victory.

Next week’s racing resumes with a kid’s candy dash and bicycles to be given away.
