Modified pre-entries top 100 for silver anniversary Super Nationals

BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 9) – The list of early entries for the silver anniversary IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals has topped 100, with Modified drivers from 16 states pre-registered for the Sept. 3-8 event at Boone Speedway.

The Modified field is already represented coast to coast and border to border. In addition to home state driv ers, entries are in hand from Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, North Dakota, Texas and Wisconsin.

“Our 25th annual Super Nationals promises to be the biggest and best yet,” said Brett Root, IMCA vice president of operations. “Early registration numbers are strong and steady and I anticipate entries to keep pouring in right to the first day of qualifying. The fee is $40 now or $40 five minutes before hot laps start. There’s no reason to overcharge with a $300 entry fee.”

Seven previous Modified champions will chase new titles. Wayne Graybeal, Benji LaCrosse, Rich Lewerke, John Logue, David Murray Jr., Ron Pope and Darren Williams will pit together in a special area.

All 16 drivers who have won Modified titles since the inaugural event in 1983 have been invited as special guests and those attending will be recognized during pre-race ceremonies on Saturday, when Masters Enter tainment of Bristol, Tenn., will film interviews and on-track action for three Motor Mania broadcasts in October on The Outdoor Channel.

The 30-minute program first airs at 7:30 p.m. EST Friday, Oct. 12, and again Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 15-16, at times to be announced.

“We’ve added a lot of exciting things, such as TV, which no other Modified event is providing this year,” Root said. “There will also be a webcast and we’re working on an FM radio show with live broadcasts from the track.”

Early entries in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod division are from Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and Wisconsin. Qualifying for that division has been expanded to two days, with the feature added to the final night’s program

Stock Car entries are postmarked from Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska and Wisconsin. Hobby Stock entries have come from Iowa and Nebraska.

No early registration is done for the opening night Deery Brothers Summer Series for Late Models or Tues day’s Jackpot Junction Tour for Sprint Cars.

Total purse for the upcoming Super Nationals will be an estimated $275,000. Nearly $60,000 in contingency awards will be given as well by IMCA sponsors.

With displays moved to the north side of the nearby JR Motorsports building, there will be more room for more cars in the pit area. Approximately 50 concrete spots are available and drivers interested in renting one can call the speedway office at 515 987-1220.

Pit passes won’t be required to get into the renamed Manufacturer’s Midway, noted Root, making it more accessible to racers and the general public. Seminars planned there during the week will cover topics includ ing setup and rear suspension, shocks and springs, and cockpit safety.

“Manufacturers’ Midway will be racer friendly as well as fan friendly,” he said. “It will essentially be a cold pit area, with free admission.”

Other off-track activities during the week include open houses at JR, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Thursday, and at Harris Auto Racing, also from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., on Friday.

The K & K Insurance golf tournament is set for Friday morning at the Boone Golf and Country Club, with proceeds benefitting local charities.
