Brian Birkhofer has Successful Extended Weekend Highlighted by USA Nationals Triumph!

MUSCATINE, IA (Aug 09) - Brian Birkhofer recently wrapped up a busy extended weekend, which was highlighted by a pair of big victories at the Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin! After an exciting $5,000 win on Thursday, August 2 at Cedar Lake, Brian captured the $50,000 payday in the annual ‘USA Nationals’ on Saturday evening. The pair of victories brings Brian’s win total up to five for the 2007 racing season.

Below is a quick recap of each event that the #15b team entered in recent days in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa, as posted exclusively on www.brianbirkhoferracing.com !

August 1 | Superior (WI) Speedway, WDRL | $10,000 to win

* Brian timed in eighth fastest overall in group qualifying and later won his heat race from the fourth starting spot. He then ran third in the dash to earn the inside second row starting for the 50-lap A-Main.

* "Birky" ran second through most of the $10,000 to win feature event, but was passed by Jimmy Mars with under ten laps to go for the second spot. At the end of fifty green flag racing laps, the Muscatine, Iowa native was credited with a strong third place performance behind winner Wendell Wallace and runner-up Jimmy Mars.

August 2 | Cedar Lake (WI) Speedway, WDRL | $5,000 to win

* Brian was sixth quickest in WDRL group qualifying tonight at Cedar Lake and later won his heat race. After a strong fourth place performance in the dash, Brian earned himself the outside second row starting spot for the $5,000 to win feature event.

* "Birky" was very strong throughout the 50-lap A-Main, as he chased race leader Ashley Anderson through most of the race. The Muscatine, Iowa native finally got the point on lap forty-four and led the final six circuits of the race to record the $5,000 win over Wendell Wallace and Ashley Anderson!

August 3-4 | Cedar Lake (WI) Speedway, USA Nationals | $50,000 to win

* "Birky" timed in sixth fastest in qualifying for the annual 'USA Nationals' on Friday evening, August 3. He then earned a hard-fought second place effort in his heat race behind winner Tim McCreadie, which gave him a coveted starting spot in the A-Main.

* After rolling off from the inside of the fifth row for the 100-lap A-Main on Saturday, August 4, Brian put on a show in front of the packed grandstands at Cedar Lake. He worked his way up front and took the lead from Earl Pearson, Jr. in the second half of the caution-filled race and held off Scott Bloomquist, Earl Pearson, Jr., Tim McCreadie, and Wendell Wallace to record the $50,000 payday! The victory was Brian's second 'USA Nationals' triumph, as he also took home the top prize in 2004.

August 6 | LaSalle (IL) Speedway, Lucas Oil Series | $10,000 to win

* Brian timed in fourteenth quickest in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series qualifying tonight at LaSalle and later finished fourth in his competitive heat race.

* After starting from the outside of the seventh row for the 50-lap feature event, "Birky" improved six spots in front of the SPEED Channel cameras en route to an eighth place performance.

August 7 | Dubuque (IA) Speedway, Lucas Oil Series | $10,000 to win

* Brian finished fourth in his heat race tonight at Dubuque to earn the fourteenth starting spot for the 50-lap A-Main.

* He was deemed late to the lineup shoot prior to the start of the feature event and had to roll off from the tail end of the field. Brian was trying to make strides towards the front, but he blew a tire, which relegated him to a disappointing nineteenth place finish in the $10,000 to win event.

“It was an awesome weekend for us at Cedar Lake,” quoted Birkhofer today via telephone. “We ran the new car at Superior and Cedar Lake and that car was very good. I have to thank my family and friends for all of their help and support on the new Rocket car, as well as their dedication to the team in general. It felt great to win another USA Nationals title and the $50,000 top prize that came along with it doesn’t hurt either. Hopefully, that new car will perform strong again this weekend at Florence and maybe we will have a shot at another big payday!”

The Birkhofer Racing team will now set their sights on the 25th Annual ‘North/South 100’ at the Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky. The unsanctioned mega-event will be held this weekend at the King Family’s 1/2-mile, high-banked oval. Qualifying will take place on Friday evening, August 10, while heat races, consolation events, and the 100-lap, $50,000 to win A-Main are scheduled for Saturday night, August 11. Brian finished twenty-first in last year’s version of the ‘North/South 100.’ For more information concerning the activities this weekend at Florence, please visit www.florencespeedway.com!
