Davenport Speedway Season Championships Rained Out

DAVENPORT, Ia (Aug 24) - The Davenport Speedway Season Championships scheduled for tonight have been canceled. Heavy rains throughout this week have made track preparation impossible.

The 2007 Davenport Speedway Track Champions have been determined by the current point standings.

In the I.M.C.A. Late Model division, Ely, Iowa's Terry Neal won his second track championship at the Davenport Speedway. Neal's previous title came in 2005. Second in points is Davenport's Matt Ryan. Andy Nezworski finished third in points, with Mike Murphy Jr., and Fred Remley tied for fourth.

Moline's Thad Wilson has claimed the track championship in the V-8 Modified class. Wilson has six feature wins on the season, the most of any driver at Davenport this year. Kevin Blum of Colona is second in points and Bob "the Dominator" Dominacki finished third.

Brad Tyler of Moscow, Iowa is the track champion in the Street Stock class. Orion's Henry Carson finished second in points with Kevin Schloemer of Davenport, a distant third.

The closest points battle of 2007 was in the B-Modified division, where three drivers were in the title hunt. Jake 'the Snake' Waterman of Milan, is the new track champion, taking the crown by a single point over Bettendorf's John Ahlers. Moline's Craig Crawford finishes in third, only eleven points out of the lead.

Davenport's Craig Peekenschneider has taken his first INEX Legend Car track championship. Keith Meyer of Cedar Rapids, ends the 2007 season, a distant second in points with Rock Island's Darrick Calhoun third.

The 4 Cylinder Stock class has Ricky Kay of Wheatland taking the crown. Stockton's Steve Boyle will finish second in points with Steven Phillips of Camanche third.

Post-season racing action at the Davenport Speedway begins Friday, September 7th, with the running of the Davenport Dirt Classic. The Davenport Dirt Classic is highlighted by the Spec vs. Open Late Model feature, paying $2,000 to win. Also racing will be V-8 Modifieds, Street Stocks, and B-Modifieds.
