Moffitt Finishes With a Career High Fourth at Grundy County Speedway

ANKENY, IA (May 25) – ASALMS North Series rookie driver Brett Moffitt continues to improve and impress series officials, developmental teams and race fans alike. Competing in just his second complete ASALMS North Series event, Moffitt finished in a very respectable fourth place during the George Appleton Memorial “125”, held at the Grundy County Speedway in Morris, IL.

Piloting the 5K Motorsports prepared, Karl Chevrolet sponsored, Monte Carlo, the fifteen year old Moffitt received the Appleton Rack and Pinions “Rookie of the Race” award for leading all other rookies across the Finish Line. Moffitt followed third place Anthony Pile, second place Robbie Pyle and ASALMS veteran, Eddie Hoffman, the race winner.

Moffitt’s determination and his career high fourth place finish came only after the 5K Motorsports / Karl Chevrolet team overcame the difficulty of Grundy County Speedway. With practice times putting Moffitt twenty-eight on the speed charts of the thirty-four car field, driver and team went to work. When qualifying time came around, it was evident that the decisions and the team’s hard work would pay off. Moffitt’s sixth quick qualifying run placed him comfortably in the field with a sixth place starting spot.

The young Moffitt who possesses a cool racing demeanor, continued to prove his ability to make good decisions, communicate with his team and pass cars when it was time. With the invert, Moffitt started the one hundred-twenty five lap race from inside the second row. Moffitt never fell below fourth, and raced as close to the front as second, challenging the leader at times. After several laps of tight competition, on lap ninety-six, eventual race winner Eddie Hoffman would take Moffitt to school with a text book pass in turn two. Hoffman would bring Robbie Pyle with him, relegating Moffitt to fourth. Finishing in a convincing fourth place, Moffitt stated, “I was just glad to finish this race”. “I was disappointed about not being able to complete the race last week (at the Iowa Speedway), I wish this race could have been in front of my home town sponsors and fans”, concluded Moffitt. Comments from the 5K motorsports team were those of pleasure and encouragement. One team member commented about the difficulty of competing at Grundy County and the fact that it was race winner, Eddie Hoffman’s home track. Brett has a lot of talent and to be competing at this level so early in his asphalt career is very impressive. All and all it was a great day for Brett Moffitt and the Karl Chevrolet sponsored 5K Motorsports Team.

Just to polish off the weekend of racing, the Moffitt crew hustled back to Iowa just in time to compete in the annual Memorial Day special, Monday evening at the Boone, IA Speedway. This weekend’s number must have been four as Moffitt finished fourth in his qualifying heat race and then repeated with a fourth place finish during the IMCA, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod division “A” feature.
