Murphy, Marquette, and Dahl win track titles and features
by Mike McGuire

DAVENPORT, IA (August 22) - It was Season Championship night at the Davenport Speedway, Friday. Going into the 2008 finale, only Kelly Meyer in the Kimberly Dodge B-Mods had clinched a track championship.

Entering the evening, Mike Murphy Jr., Boone McLaughlin, and Matt Ryan were separated by only five points, in the IMCA Late Model standings. Murphy, McLaughlin, and Ray Guss Jr. won the heats.

When the feature started, Murphy acted as if he were shot out of a cannon. The only thing that would slow Murphy down was lapped traffic. Murphy would race on to victory and the track championhship with McLaughlin in his shadow. Boone would finish second in the feature, second in points, just two behind Murphy. Keith Pratt closed out his Davenport season with a third place finish, followed by Joe Zrostlik and Matt Ryan.

In Pro Mod action, Bob Dominacki came in leading Thad Wilson by nine points. Wilson quickly gained back three of the points with a heat win and then led the feature flag to flag for his third win of the season. Dominacki rode the high side to a fourth place finish, and won the track championship by a mere three points.

John Ahlers drove to a strong second place feature finish, followed by John Bull. Tony VonDresky completed the top five.
The B&C Auto Salvage Street Stock feature was littered with yellow flags. Point leader Jeremy Marquette started on the pole and managed to stay in front of the carnage. Marquette took home his sixth feature win of the year and his first Davenport Speedway track championship.

Henry Carson made a late race surge to take second, followed by Andrew Burk,Tim Koehler, and Dustin Spicer, in that order. Second in points, Cary Brown, suffered several flat tires on the evening and finished well back.
Derrick Carlson posted his second feature win of the season, in the Kimberly Dodge B-Mods. Carlson worked his way through the field after starting tenth. B-Mod track champion Kelly Meyer took second with Craig Crawford, Terry Rentfro, and Drew Otten rounding out the top five.

Dennis Begyn began the night two markers behind Jeremy Meyer in the INEX Legend Car division. Begyn made up the difference by taking second in his heat race and entered the feature tied with Meyer.

A handful of Wisconsin invaders were on hand for the season finale. Sauk City, Wisconsin's Eric Barth started deep in the field and blasted through to win his second Davenport feature in as may visits this year. Bettendorf's Bret Diercks was second with Wisconsin's Jeff Steenbergen third. Dennis Begyn's fourth place finish was enough to gain the track championshipm as Jeremy Meyer would finish eighth. Warren Ropp finished fifth in the feature.

Wade Dahl of Blue Grass, won the CrashedToys.com 4 Stock feature and the track title. The victory was Dahl's fifth of the season and first Davenport championship. Murry Keatley, Chris Zrostlik, Jacob Ellithorpe, and Kevin Haury finished second through fifth respectively.
