Mid-Season Champs Crowned at Jackson County Speedway

MAQUOKETA, IOWA (June 19) - After two weeks of no racing thanks to the weatherman, he finally smiled back on the track at Jackson County Speedway Saturday and let the racing resume.  Although it’s only the sixth race of the season thanks to Mr. Weather, it was time for the Rotman Motor Company Mid-Season Championships.  One hundred and one cars filled the pit area to vie for the honors.  Using his pole starting spot 4-Stock second heat winner, Chris Holmlund grabbed the early lead of the feature.  On lap five Jeremy Campbell came from his ninth place starting spot to take over.  Holmlund had the chase on but couldn’t get back to him as Campbell went on for his fourth trip to victory lane this year.  Holmlund held on for second with tenth place starter, Jake Ellithorpe taking third.  Lane Vohringer was was fourth with last place starter, Gene Potter taking fifth.  Jason Blocker and Joey Veach won the other two heats.

Hobby Stock feature pole sitter, D. J. Fuller took the lead at the drop of the green,, but on lap five first heat winner, Shawn Flagel stormed by.  As soon as Flagel took over the lead one of the tightest fought battles of the night started behind him for second.  Sheldon Hunter and second heat winner, Kile Vohringer went back and forth for the spot the rest of the race.  Flagel took his first win of the season and at the checkers it was Vohringer second and Hunter third.  Fuller held on for fourth wieth Matt McGranahan coming from his eleventh place starting spot for fifth.. 

Coming from his third place starting spot Marty Scheckel took the lead of the IMCA Modified feature and led the first lap, then the caution flew.  On the restart, another caution later, Jake Waterman charged out front.  Despite five more cautions nobody was going to catch Waterman as he went for his second victory this year.  Ben Traver was a strong second with Terry Rentfro third.  Eleventh place starter Dan Klatt was fourth with twelfth place starter, Matt Irwin fifth.  The heat wins went to Klatt, Andrew Burk and Waterman.

Cary Brown started on the pole of the Street Stock feature and led the first lap.  On lap two second heat winner, Joe Bonney took over the point and then the race got a little tough going in the middle laps.  Between laps six and ten the caution flew five times.  On the eighth lap first heat winner, Dan Mohr moved out front and never looked back as he went on for his third win of the season.  On a last lap move Kevin Brame moved in to take second with Brown holding on for third.  Chip Kohl was fourth with twelfth place starter, Jon Poll rounding ot the top five.

After winning the Gade Racing Engines/Shirts ‘n’ Stuff Pro Modified heat race, Jake Bowman came back and led the feature flag to flag to take his first win of the season.  The race went all twenty laps caution free.  Bart Miller was second with Ray Cox Jr third.  Doug Crampton came from tenth to take fourth over Tim Arp’s fifth.

The B & D Pit Stop IMCA Late Model feature saw pole sitter, Adam Oppendike take the early lead and hold it through lap eight dewpite three cautions keeping the field tight up behind him.  At lap nine Terry Neal moved out front and the caution flew three more times.  Neal stayed out front and started getting lap traffic involved by lap seventee, with Oppendike chasing his.  As Neal went on for his second win this season Ryan Duhme slipped by Oppendike with five laps to go.  Duhme went on to take second with Ray nGuss Jr third and Doug Nigh fourth.  Oppendike held on for fifth.  The heats went to Bryan Klein, Nigh and Neal.
