Mike Morrow Pockets Dusty Kay Memorial Cash
by: Ed Potter

MAQUOKETA, IOWA (August 7) - Saturday Jackson County Speedway hosted the 4th annual Dusty Kay Memorial race for 4 Stocks.  Thirteen hundred dollars was added to the 4-Stock purse including five Hundred for the winner.  Pole sitter, Gene Potter grabbed the early lead of this thirteen lapper holding off the challenges of Jake Montoya.  The caution flew at lap six and before the race could get another lap it flew again for a car losing a wheel.  On the restart positions stayed the same with Potter out front and Montoya challenging.  One lap later Montoya edged out front to lead a lap, but then Potter came right back to take over.  The races final caution flew at lap nine.  On the restart Mike Morrow went to the point and never looked back as he went for the victory.  Eighth place starter Jake Ellithorpe took second with Potter holding on for third.  Ricky Kay was fourth with twelfth place starter, Jason Blocker fifth.

The Hobby Stock feature went greenflag to checkers caution free.  Josh Neal led lap one with Nate Yoerger taking over on lap two.l  At lap seven Shawn Flagel went out front and held on to take his second win of the season.  Yoerger held on for second with Kile Vohringer third, Justin Yarolem fourth and Cameron Sorgenfrey fifth.

The Midwest Jalopies made their second visit to the speedway this season and their feature also ran caution free.  Bob Mingst put his 34 Ford out front, but Chris Gillmore took over on lap seven in his 38 Dodge.  Gillmore went on for the win with The 33 Chevy of Rodney Haack taking second.  MIngst held on for third with Doug Picray fourth in a 35 Ford and Jerry Cayler fifth in a 40 Chevy.

The IMCA Modified feature didn’t go quite as smooth as the prior two features, although the cautiononly came out twice.  The first was before a lap was scored and involved six cars piling up coming off turn four.  When the race started it was Mike Fuller leading lap one with Cory Bauer taking over on lap two.  As four cars piled up between turns one and two the other caution flew.  On the restart it was Bauer back out front with Keith Feller edging out on lap four.  Bauer came back on lap five and was soon being challenged by fourteenth place starter, Ben Traver.  Traver finally got by on lap eleven and went on for his second win of the season.  Bauer held on for second with twelfth place starter, Mark Schulte taking third.  Feller was fourth with Jake Waterman fifth.

Brendan Driscoll led the first lap of the Street Stock feature and the caution flew involving Driscoll and two other cars.  On the restart Jed Holland took over the point with Chip Kohl taking over on lap four.  Dan Mohr had rolled his race car in his heat race and borrowed Mitch Schmitz’s car for the feature, starting last.  Mohr went out font on lap six and despite two more single car cautions never looked back, to go on for his fourth win this year.  A real battle formed behind him between Driscoll and Kohl for second with Kohl taking the spot on the last lap.  Driscoll was third with Josh Wilson fourth and Holland fifth.

Timmy Current grabbed the lead of the Gade Racing Engines/Shirts ‘n’ Stuff Pro Modified feature and held it through the white flag lap despite four single car cautions keeping the field tightened up.  By the mid-race point Current was being challenged by Doug Crampton on every lap.  On the last lap coming for the checkers with Current on the inside and Crampton on the outside, Current got a little loose and Crampton took his third win of the season by a nose.  Thad Wilson was third with Jake Bowman fourth and Matt Stein fifth.

Coming from his fourth place starting spot Ryan Duhme snatched the early lead of the B & D Pit Stop IMCA Late Model feature.  At lap six Terry Neal got by bringing Doug Nigh with him.  By lap eight Ray Guss Jr had moved into second and the chase was on.  At lap fifteen the caution flew for a driveshaft on the racing surface in the back straightaway.  As this caution was flying Neal went off the track at one end avoiding the driveshaft and Guss went off at the other end avoiding the car that lost it.  Both cars were given their positions back as the falg was for the debris.  With the field tightened back up it was Neal back out front on the restart.  Neal went on for his fifth victory this season.  Guss was second with Nigh third.  Bryan Klein took fourth with Joe Zrostlik fifth.
