Michael Waltrip Racing Hires Brett Moffitt to Drive the No. 00 Toyota in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East 

GRIMES, IOWA (December 20, 2010) – Officials at Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR) are excited to announce that Brett Moffitt will drive MWR’s No. 00 Toyota in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East during the 2011 season.  

The 18-year-old Iowa native will start his third full season in the East series, where he has already earned an impressive four wins; three poles, 12 top-5’s, and 17 top-10’s.  Moffitt finished third in the Championship Point Standings in 2009, while driving for Andy Santerre Motorsports and was the Championship runner-up in 2010, driving for Joe Gibbs Racing. 

“I am honored by this opportunity,” Moffitt said. “I have seen what this team has accomplished over the last two years and can’t wait to begin.” 

Moffitt replaces Ryan Truex (the younger brother of NASCAR Sprint Cup competitor Martin Truex, Jr.) who will race in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2011.  Ryan Truex is the two-time defending NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Champion. 

“Hopefully, I can get a chance to run for my first and for their third championship this season,” said Moffitt. “This is a heck of an opportunity, and I’m honored they chose me to contend for another championship.  I plan to show them they made the right decision.” 

Michael Waltrip, the team owner and two-time Daytona 500 Champion, stated, “We have a lot of faith in Brett.  We saw what he did the last two years on the track, and we are confident he’ll do well with us.  I think MWR fans and NASCAR fans are really going to like him.” 

Moffitt is excited to join a strong team at MWR, headed Crew Chief Mike Greci, who claimed the series Championship in 1997 and 1998 with Mike Stefanik and in 2009 and 2010 with Ryan Truex.
