SPI is Happy to Announce an Action Packed Season of Special Events

WEST LIBERTY, IA (March 1, 2011) - Simmons Promotions proudly enters its second decade of entertaining Eastern Iowa race fans with the widest variety of dirt track racing in the area. In addition to weekly late model racing at Farley, West Liberty and Dubuque Speedway's, SPI is happy to announce an action packed season of special events.

Kicking off the 61 race schedule will be the opening night of the 25th Annual IMCA Deery Brothers Summer series in Dubuque on Saturday, April 2nd with the area's finest late model pilots slugging it out for 50 laps on the high banked bullring.

The Farley Speedway and West Liberty Raceway will play host to the Open Late Models on Friday, April 29th and Saturday, April 30th for the Annual May Day Classic, a pair of $10,000 to win 50 lap events that will draw the top drivers from around the country. Past winners of the May Day Classic events include Terry Phillips, Brian Birkhoffer and Billy Moyer.

Tornado Tuesday’s return with three mid-week events in 2010, IMCA Deery Brothers take the half mile stage at the Farley Speedway for a Yankee Dirt Track Classic tune-up on June 7th and the West Liberty Raceway on July 12th, with the open late models ripping up the flat half mile in West Liberty on August 9th.  Other special events on the calendar include the ever popular Legend’s Night honoring retired drivers from the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's at the Farley Speedway on Friday, June 17th, and the Firecracker 50 featuring IMCA Late Models and West Liberty Modifieds in twin 25 lap features in West Liberty on Saturday July 2nd. The season wraps up in West Liberty on October 7th and 8th with the 13th Annual Liberty 100 featuring dual 50 lap features for both the IMCA and the Open Late Models.

Iowa’s longest running event will have a new look in 2010 when the 34th Annual Yankee Dirt Track Classic takes the stage at the Farley Speedway on September 14th thru 18th. For the first time ever, the Hawkeye Dirt Tour modifieds will share the stage with the IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series and the top open late model drivers in the country.

Kicking off the Yankee this year on Wednesday September 14th will be the IMCA Sport Mods, Sport Compacts and Hobby Stocks as well as the SPI Stock Cars and INEX Legends with qualifying heats and consolation events on 3/8 mile. Thursday night will be Last Chance events in all divisions with the features paying $1000 to win for the Stock Cars and $500 to win for Sport Compacts, Sport Modifieds and Hobby Stocks. Also taking the track will be an open test and tune on the high banked half mile for the IMCA Modifieds, Late Models and the Open Late Models. The Yankee shifts into high gear on Friday September 16th with a full schedule of qualifying for the Hawkeye Dirt Tour Modifieds, IMCA Deery Brothers Late Models and Open Late Models as well the Deery Brothers Summer Series Silver Anniversary Brodix 25 Lap Shootout. This special invitation only race is open to all current point leaders and past champions of the Deery Brothers Summer Series and IMCA Late Model National Champions, dating back to the series inception in 1987. While the Yankee Dirt Track Classic has always featured the top drivers in the Midwest, changes in the 2011 edition look to provide a record number of entrants with many drivers competing in more than one feature event. Putting a cap on the this year’s Yankee will once again be the Diehard 200 Enduro on Sunday, September 18th.
