DART CORN BELT CLASH TO OPEN SEASON THIS WEEKEND AT DEER CREEK SPEEDWAY
Super Late Model Series opens third season of competition at familiar venue

By Tom Lathen

WEST UNION, IA (April 19, 2011) - The Dart Corn Belt Clash Late Model Series is set to open its 2011 season this weekend at a familiar venue.

After inclimate weather forced the cancellation of last weekend’s scheduled season opener at Elko Speedway, the third year Late Model series now heads to a familiar venue for its season lid-lifter, the popular 3/8 mile Deer Creek Speedway near Spring Valley, Minnesota.

“Fans of the Dart Corn Belt Clash always enjoy making the trip to Deer Creek Speedway,” commented series founder and Director Cam Granger.  “The Queensland family always rolls out the red carpet for our drivers and fans, the facility is always clean and well cared-for, and the racing surface is typically second to none.”

“We expect a great night of racing,” he added.  “With with the great group of series regulars we expect to be there and the outstanding field of WISSOTA Late Model drivers at Deer Creek, this weekend should provide fans with plenty of great racing action.”

Last year’s CBC champion Chad Simpson of Mount Vernon, Iowa will head a talented group of series regulars expected to participate in this weekend’s southern Minnesota season opener.  In addition to last year’s Corn Belt Clash championship, the 32-year old Simpson has also wheeled his Bud and Denise Brinkman owned Liebe Trucking/GATR Volvo GMC/MasterSbilt Chevrolet to two WORLD Dirt Racing League (WDRL) series championships, a United States Racing Association (USRA) national title, an Indee Open championship and numerous special event victories in his seven year Late Model career.

Younger brother Chris Simpson, last year’s Corn Belt Clash series runner-up, is also expected to be in the field for this weekend’s Podein's Power & Equipment 40 at “The Creek.”  The younger Simpson, of Oxford, Iowa, finished less than a hundred points out of first place in last year’s series point standings and is expected to keep his Gear Wrench/Five Star Shop Service/Longhorn Chassis Chevrolet in contention for the $2,500 top prize.

Other series participants expected in the field include two-time former WDRL champion Denny Eckrich of Tiffin, Iowa, hard-charging Cosgrove, Iowa traveler Dave Eckrich, Jason Rauen of Farley, Iowa, and Jason Utter of Columbus Junction, Iowa.

Deer Creek Speedway regulars expected in the field include defending track champion Mike Prochnow of Menomonie, Wisconsin, Dennis Hillson of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, Joe Ludeman and Jerry Bloom, both of Grand Meadow, Minnesota, Brad Waits of Zumbrota, Minnesota, and Nick and Doug Herrick both of West Concord, Minnesota.

Others expected in the field for Saturday night’s event include Chad Mahder of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Adam Hensel of Barron, Wisconsin, Tim Isenberg of Marshfield, Wisconsin, and Nick and Nate Beyenhof both of Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Last year, the Dart Corn Belt Clash opened and closed its season at Deer Creek Speedway with series champion Chad Simpson winning both events.

WISSOTA Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds and Street Stocks are also included on Saturday night’s racing card at Deer Creek Speedway, in addition to USRA Modifieds and B-Mods.  Racing action is set to get underway at 5:00.
