EXCITEMENT BUILDS AS HDT OPENER APPROACHES

VINTON, IA (May 5, 2011) - The JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour (for IMCA Modifieds) 2011 HDT Opener is fast approaching, and race fans are starting to feel the excitement.  The countdown is on for the Tuesday, May 10th event at the Benton County Speedway in Vinton, IA.  DirtTour.com has complete details.

"I think it was an exciting year last year, and 2011 should be even better," smiled HDT Race Director Bucky Doren.  "2010 HDT Champion Mike Jergens (Plover, IA), and runner-ups Richie Gustin (Gilman, IA) and Rich Smith (Davenport, IA) have indicated they plan to return."

Doren went on to say that several of last year's All Stars on the HDT trail plan to return as well.  This includes the rest of last year's Top 10: Vern Jackson (Waterloo, IA), Mark Schulte (Delhi, IA), Ron Pope (Mason City, IA), Jeff Waterman (Quincy, IL), Jason Snyder (Dunkerton, IA), Greg Cox (Altoona, IA), and Ronn Lauritzen (Jesup, IA).

"What is even more exciting is who is looking to join our All Star family," explained Doren.  "We've received a lot of interest from some new names, and I think that has a lot to do with IMCA Modifieds added to the racing line-up in Eastern Iowa this year.

"Ron Barker from Dubuque (Iowa) and Ryan Dolan from Lisbon (Iowa) both plan to race for the championship." Doren stated.  "Josh Foster (Montrose, IA) will return after missing part of the 2010 season due to an injury."

Other new names who plan to run at least a few events include Larry Herring (Lone Tree, IA), Mike Weikert (Muscatine, IA), Joe Docekal (Dysart, IA), and Clayton Christensen (Spencer, IA).

The HDT check-in and draw will begin at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, May 10.  Grandstand & Pit Gates open at 5:30 (the pits will be clear for those already in the BCS pit area).  The HDT draw closes at 6:30 PM followed by a drivers meeting.  Hot laps are slated for 6:45 PM with heat races to follow.  The scheduled rain date is Thursday, May 12, 2011.

IMCA Modifieds race for $1,000 to win in the opening event of the second annual tour.  IMCA National, North Central Region, State and special series points will be awarded to Modifieds in their Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier at Vinton.

IMCA SportMods and IMCA Sport Compacts complete the midweek program.  SportMods and Sport Compacts both chase national and state points.

After the May 10th HDT Opener, the All Stars of the JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour travel to Mason City's I-35 Speedway (May 30) and Tipton's Cedar County Raceway (June 14).
