Mullen Takes Home IMCA Modified Shootout Cash
By Ed Potter

MAQUOKETA, IA (May 28, 2011) - One hundred and twelve cars crowded the pits Saturday at Jackson County Speedway, forty-one of which were there to vie for the two thousand dollar to win IMCA Modified Shootout.  With twenty cars starting the feature a lot of good cars and drivers went home without making the show.  After four hard fought heats and two consi’s Joe Beal started on the pole and grabbed the leqd on the drop of the green with other front row starter, home town favorite, Jake Bowman hot on his tail..Fourth place starter, Brian Mullen of Seymour, Wisconsin moved into third on the first lap.  On lap twenty-four of the single caution forty lapper, Mullen moved by both Bowman and Beal to go out front.  From then on it was his race as he sailed on for the victory.  Eighth place starer, Oberlin, Kansas’s David Murray moved in to take second with seven laps to go.  Bowman held on for third with Ron Barker coming from tenth to take fourth.  Thad Wilson was a strong fifth.

Mike McGarry took the early lead of the single caution Hobby Stock Feature with sixth place starter, Joe Grant taking over on lap four.  Grant went on for his first feature win of the season.  Ninth place starter, Kile Vohringer took second over tenth place starter, Nate Yoerger’s third.  Matt Short was fourth followed by Bruce Yoerger.

Pole sitter, R. J. Gonzales snatched the lead of the Straight Pipes Plus Street Stock feature, but it didn’t take long for him to start feeling pressure and eighth place starter, Tim Current moved into seond on the second lap.  On lap five Current moved out front and went on for his second trip to victory lane of the year.  Hard battles were being fought behind him as Joe Bonney took second with Chip Kohl third.  Gonzales held on for fourth with Mitch Schmitz taking fifth.

Don Pataska lead the early laps of the B & D Pit Stop IMCA Late Model feature, but a fifth lap caution proved to be his downfall.  On the restart Ryan Duhme went around to take over the lead.  One lap later, Ray Guss Jr got by Pataska to move into second.  On lap fifteen Guss went out front and on for his first Jackson County Speedway win this year.  Stephan Kammerer took second with Joe Ross third.  Duhme held on for fourth as Jon Merfeld came from twelfth to take fifth.

The Hawkeye Auto 4 Stock feature got off to a rough start as the caution flew three times and four cars were retired before a lap was scored.  When things finally got going it was Gene Potter out front holding off Jake Montoya.  On lap six Montoya moved out front, but two laps later brought the races only other caution.  On the restart it was Potter back out front now holding off the challenges of his son, Jake Ellithorpe.  Potter held on four his first win of the year with Ellithorpe second.  Rob Harding Sr was third with
