Hemsted picks up first Stock Car win at CJ Speedway Stewart, Masengarb and Whalen, all get repeat victories.
By Dana Royer

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, IA (June 3, 2011) – After two weeks of rainouts CJ Speedway was back in action with IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Compacts (4 cyl), Mod Lites and Modifieds taking to the track.

David Hemsted, (Lone Tree), raced to his first feature win of the year while Tyler Whalen (Ainsworth) collected win number two.  Jason Masongarb (Kalona) got win number three and Steve Stewart (Burlington) continues to be the man to beat in the modified class taking the checkered flag for the fourth time this season.

The IMCA Sport Compacts put on a thriller for the fans in a down to the wire finish. Bill Whalen, took the early lead from his front row start. But on lap eight of the ten lap feature, Tyler Whalen would pull along side of the leader coming out of turn three. The two raced bumper to bumper and on the final lap they were side by side on the back stretch. Tyler continued to challenge Bill through turns three and four. As they headed down the front stretch for the checkered flag, Tyler would edge ahead as they took the checkered flag to get  his second win of the year by mere inches.

Thirteen Mod Lites took to the track for the second feature of the night with  Todd Cramer and Blake Woodruff on the front row. Kamer took the early lead but would give it up when Daniel Keltner would make a pass on lap three for the second lead of the race. Keltner led the next two laps before a red flag came out when Blake Woodruff rolled off of turn one. During the caution Keltner would pull in to the pits giving the lead to Jason Masengarb at the start of lap six. Keltner would return at the back of the pack with Masengarb in the lead followed by Justin Buchholz. Keltner would work his way back up to third but developed more problems and pulled into the pit area again. Masengarb and Buchholz would pull away from the field  with Masengarb holding off Buchholz for his third win in three races at CJ.

Lane Kauffman took the early lead in the fourteen car IMCA Stock Car feature followed by Jason Hartman and Travis Finke. Hartman and Finke got together  trying to avoid a stopped Nathan Woods in turn three to bring out  the second caution of the race and allowed for  David Hemsted to move in to the second spot behind Kaufman. Kauffman would get a little too high in turn three and Hemsted went underneath for the lead followed by Cole Simmons. Simmons hung tight to Hemsted racing bumper to bumper at times. With one lap to go, a car length separated the leaders as they passed the flagstand. Simmons gave it a good shot but Hemsted would pull out the win with half a car length separating the two for an exciting finish.

Steve Stewart continues to dominate the modified division picking up his fourth win this year. Stewart took the led from Tim Sands on lap four of the twelve lap feature and never looked back.

Coming up Friday, June 10 will be more point race action for IMCA Sport Compacts (4 cylinders), Mod Lites, IMCA Stock Cars, Modifieds and Late Models.
