"LUCKY" FRIDAY THE 13th SAW STEWART 3-PEAT IN THE MODIFIED CLASS AT CJ SPEEDWAY !
by Dianna Winkel for CJ Speedway

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, IOWA (May 16, 2011) - For the third straight Friday in a row CJ Speedway was able to get in a full night of racing action on Friday the 13th, even though Mother Nature tried to dampen the spirits of the drivers & race fans.

Eleven IMCA Sport Compacts checked in to do battle for the evening that saw Merv Chandler and Steve Miedke garner heat race wins. A Trophy Dash was held for the Top 6 finishing cars from the heats and Steve Miedke on his first visit to the track this season would again be the winner for that event.

Next up would be the heats for the always exciting IMCA Stock cars that would result in Nathan Wood and  Kirk Kinsley taking the wins in their respective heats. The Trophy Dash for the Top 6 cars would see 2 of the drivers not making the call to line-up and Blaine Dopler came away victorious for the win in that event.

Six modifieds checked in for the evening and Alex Buffington was the heat winner. The Trophy dash for the Top 6 cars would once again see 2 drivers not making the call for the line-up and Steve Stewart won after  Alex Buffington would unfortunately relinquished the lead after 5 laps as a result of losing his drive shaft.

After a short intermission to let the drivers get ready for their feature events the IMCA Sport Compacts were the first class on tap for the evening to take the field. Eleven cars lined up for the ten lap feature with Merv Chandler and Tyler Whalen on the front row. In the most exciting 4 cylinder race so far this season that saw the lead change 5 times in ten laps Tyler Whalen would find himself the victor for the first time this season. Steve Miedke would take the runner up spot, Merv Chandler who held the lead five times during the race would come home third, James Roose was fourth and Bill Whalen would round out the top five.

Fourteen IMCA Stock Cars took the green flag next with Lane Kauffman and John Hemsted of the front row. Blaine Dopler would take the lead on the first lap from his second row starting postion and never look back as he led all 15 laps of the race to find himself in the winners circle for the first time this year at CJ.

Behind him the battle for the top spots was hard fought between Nathan Wood, Billy Faler and last weeks feature winner Travis Finke. When the dust settled Nathan Wood had to settle for the runner up spot, Billy Faler took third, Dave Hemsted crossed the stripe fourth and Travis Finke would round out the top five.

The Modified class would be the final event for the evening with Alex Buffington and Tim Sands on the front row for theirr 12 lap feature race. Alex Buffington would take the early lead but Steve Stewart would continue his winning streak by finding victory lane to take the checkered flag for the 3rd straight week in a row and Alex Buffington would have to settle second, Brad Tyler on his first visit to the CJ Speedway this season would finish third, with Tim Sands fourth and Mark Winkel rounding out the top five.

The Mod-Lites had the evening off courtesy of the CJ Speedway promoters so they could compete for track points in a 6 race series being held this season at 34 Raceway which ran last night with the Lucas Oil Late Model event.

Coming Up Friday, May 20 will feature $5.00 Grandstand admisision and racing for IMCA Stock Cars, Modifieds, IMCA 4 Cylinders, Late Models and Mod Lites. Kids 10 and under are admitted free with paid adult.
